Odd behavior?

I was looking all over for my female molly who was not with any of the others. I soon noticed her hiding underneath my java moss covered driftwood (there is a nice hiding spot underneath it that is concealed by the moss..)

Once I noticed her, she darted out fast as heck!!

After that, she swam around like mad, and then soon calmed down.

And now she is hiding underneath there again.. I don't want to go near and look but from the distance i can see her... I feel if I go and look she'll get freaked out..

Any ideas?

Yes, female livebearers tend to hide when they get ready to drop fry.

odd molly

it takes about 30-40 days of pregancy before mollies actually give birth, and they poo while they do so. Do you know if it really is pregnant? a fat stomach is a good sign. anyway, you should try feeding bloodworms to them. that usually induces a birth or a mating.

well haha if you mean they poo more, then she definitely does!

Her stomach is fatter then when I first got her, though it's not as huge as some of the pics I've seen of pregnant mollys. I also have not found that "gravid spot" that everyone talks about..

And thanks for the tip about bloodworms! I have been feeding fish flakes mostly, but i'll give 'em bloodworms tomorrow!

Livebearers need nothing to induce mating.
It's what they do, 90% of their waking lives.

while that is true that mollies are breeding machines, ive found that (owning mollies myself) it does help with their pregnancy by giving them much good nutrients. anyway, the stomach should get fatter as the birth of the fry comes closer. and remember, little white spot! just look for a little white spot. its the gravid spot.
