Ill Molly

So one of my mollies is dying I believe. She was one of the original ones that I had bought back in April, so I had no idea how old she was when I bought her. Recently I had noticed that the male would chase her, not trying to mate with her, to the point that all she would do is hid. So once my twenty gallon tank was cycled I decided to add her first. Yesterday morning before work I placed he in a breeding net because she seemed to be moving a little slower than usual, fed her in that, she ate.

When I came home she seemed a little slow but not bad. I decided to go ahead with the move since the twenty gallon tank had been cycled for a week and the levels all were fine. I put her in a bucket with water from her original tank, 5 cups, every half hour I added a cup of water from the 20 gallon tank. Once there were 5 or 6 cups of water from the 20 gallon tank I let her stay in it for a hour. Than I moved her. First she swam around and seemed ok. An hour or so later I went to check on her and I found her hiding. I figured thats what she will do at first since she was so use to that before.

This morning I checked on her and she was stuck to the filter, still living. I turned off the filter and she freed herself but than just went to the bottom of the tank and stayed there.

I realize I am probably going to loose her but I am worried that my other fish might get ill too. I don't know if it could be old ago or disease, she has no other symptons but being lathargic, my readings are fine (ammonia, nitrites at 0.0, and nitrates around 10 and the pH is about 7.0) the temp is at 76F and has not changed much. The original tank she was in had the just about the same readings and temp.

The other fish in the 10 gallon tank all seem fine, they are very active. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

She may have been assaulted and developed an infection, or gotten weak from constant nagging. With a weakend immune system the possibilities are numerous.

I would just keep the water as clean as possible and know that you've done the best you can do. You did an excellent job by cycling the tank and getting her into that new tank.

Kudos to you for doing so well, but sometimes even with our best efforts we can not save them all.

Thanks

She did pass on Saturday. i do believe that it was from the constant nagging as well. Just in case it wasn't I have been doing 50% water changes in each tank everyday since I noticed her ill state. I plan on doing so until about the end of this week just incase it was an undected disease. Thank you for the kodus!

How many males do you have versus females? Its best to keep a ratio of 1 male to 3 females, especially for guppies, mollies and other livebreeders as the males will constantly chase the females to the point of exhaustion if there are too many males in the tank... crazy little guys lol
Sorry about your loss =(

I'm sorry you lost the little gal, it sounds like you did everything you could for her.
It's so hard to see them go.

ratio

I had three females and one male. Now I have two and one. The male seems most interested in the largest of the females, I guess its survival of the fittest! I am in the process of seperating the males and females until the babies I have grow and I am able to sell them to people or my LFS. Thank you everyone once again for your replies.
