snails

I was just reading some of the other threads on snails and now I am a little worried. I bought a wisteria plant about a month and a half ago and then a few weeks later I noticed while cleaning my tank that I had a snail in it and figured it was a stow away on the plant. I thought it was kinda cool and just left it and now I've noticed that I have three. All pretty small. Should I get rid of them or just leave them alone? I've read they can be pest. Are they good for the tank? What do they do, and are they more messy then helpful?

lolol. They're probably pond snails. Get rid of them! They can get to be out of control VERY fast. If you want a snail, get an apple snail. They're don't reproduce like crazy like pond & MT snails.

There are probably more that you don't see yet. Pick out the ones you see. Pond snails overpopulate FAST.

Be careful about squishing them in your tank... if your fish dont eat the waste it will quickly pile up and that means tons of ammonia. i was killing 20-30 at a time before i got my yoyo's to take care of them, they are the nastiest little breeders i've ever seen. 3 become 100's in a blink of an eye

I think apple snails work the best also ! they do a great job in keeping the tank clean!
