Mollies and plants (sorry for all the posts lol)

Sorry for harassing this forum everyone LOL, but I have yet another ?

I have been told that Mollies like to eat plants. When I finish my 55gal tank, i was thinking of getting some Mollies, but It's going to be a low tech planted tank. Will this be a problem?

Also, I was thinking (note: thinking) of breeding Mollies with my extra tank (yeah... I guess I have MTS as well..), but I am going to have a community of mollies, so what would you suggest so that I do not end up having babies galore...

thanks a lot everyone!!!!!!!

Molly birth control??
The only way to not have a lot of babies is to
1 keep the sexes seperate.
2 keep livebearer baby eating fish ex angel fish in with the adults.

I have Mollies. I attempted to put plants into my aquarium, and the buggers thought it was lovely that I'd given them a snack.

I'm not sure that all Mollies will eat plants, but I know mine did...

If you don't want babies, I'd stick with all male Mollies. I tried all females and they came from the store pregnant. Yeesh!

Good luck with them! They really do have great personalities!

I am not sure on if I want babies.. but i think it'd be cute to see them swimming around like crazy ya know?

The plants are going to be a problem though...

just as a quick ?, does anyone have any pictures of their aquariums set up with mollies they could show me? Like... full shots of it.. I want to get some ideas up for what I could do with the 55gal in case I don't go with plants..

You know, I thought it was cute when I first saw the baby Mollies swimming around. Then from the two females had came 80 or so babies. I ended up having to set up their own separate aquarium and then, before I thought they were mature enough but after they'd grown a bit, the babies started having babies!

Yeesh!

I have a picture... I used fake plants and a rock thing. They like to clean algae off stuff. I've never had a cleaner tank!

That tank does look great!

What do you think of Java moss though? Like.. what if I took some of my java moss and tied it to a piece of driftwood in the tank? Do you think that will look good (and that they won't harass the moss)?

That is a pretty cool tank.. though.. I like it a lot!

Well, you can always try. I never had java moss, but it might work. On the other hand, it could be lunch for your fish! It doesn't hurt much to try though...

Thanks, I like that tank too. It's my favorite. (Just don't tell my betta that!) haha

Well good news I found out from my LFS (a few molly owners were there and we were chatting), that they have kept their mollies in a planted tank, and showed me some plants they were using. They said plants like java moss or fern are unattractive to them, and they won't hurt them. They were telling me the only reason they go for plants is the moss on them.

So yeah, it's going to work out great!!

yeah i am!!

But now i'm thinking after reading some posts of making a "lego aquarium".

we'll see how that goes.. once I get the substrate and a filter i'll start messing with the lego's and see what I can do....

mmm, I've seen that before. Someone made a sunken pirate ship outta legos. Very cute! We'll have to have some pictures after your lego creation is done!

BTW, I got 2 mollies (yay me!!) and put them in a friends 30gal (everything is fine in his tank for now.. he barely has any fish in there (only 4 white clouds and 3 otos). I was wondering if you could help me determine their sex.

Here are the pics:

If you need better pics just let me know.. I can get pics easily for you all..

Thanks everyone!!
