Molly Compatibility

I am thinking about getting some mollies for my 60g
I have 1 albino pleco, 6 oto cats, 7 Harlequin Rasboras, 4 platies in the tank now.
Would it be ok to get some mollies for the tank?

Yeass, mollys are really easy fish to find tank mates for.

In my tank i have a baby pleco, three platys, two mollys (One white sailfin and one Marble), a black skirt tetra and a red eye tetra.

I thought my mollys would have been more territorial, as they were in the tank for some time before i added the others, but they were fine!

Mollys are good fish, i love them!

I hope someone else answers you.... Yes, I believe that they are compatible. However, you will be running low on space.

1 pleco = 18"
6 oto cats = 12"
7 H. Rasboras = 14"
4 Platies = 8"

That is already 52" of fish/bioload. Mollies' adult size is about 2" so at the MAX you could have 4... I'd suggest sticking with 3...1 male, 2 females.

If you do stick with Mollies, and get males and females prepare for babies! They're like guppies... Actually, they could be worse than guppies. I have so many baby mollies right now it's not even funny. But they are really sweet fish.

Good luck!

AGREED! I had balloon mollies for the longest time - 2 female 1 male. They lived together for like 6 months and no babies. The male died and then he must have knocked up both of them because I was getting new fry every 2 weeks for close to a year!! I had HUNDREDS of fry. lol

Just be prepared...

Tell me about it... I bought two female mollies from the LFS for the purpose of NOT having babies. Nobody told me they could hold semen for several births! The amount of fish I have right now is not even funny!

If you want some mollies, you can take some of mine! I'm trying to get rid of them and I really don't want to give them to a friend who has carnivorous fish... LOL I'll probably give them to a fish store, but there are SOOO MANY and one of my fish had more today.

LOL seriously. I thought it was cute when I first found three fry in my tank. Now, not so much... I had to set up a tank just for the fry because I didn't want to kill the other fish in the tank!

TaraDawn, do you know what sex your mollies are? That could be a reason you're not getting any babies. Also, they could be too old or maybe there just isn't that romantic spark! LOL

Maybe they just need a little romantic hideaway!!! Play a little Al Green for them, turn off the overhead, turn on the blue lunar light, maybe quarantine?? ahh?? ahh!?
