Molly compatibility

I'm going to be starting up a new 20 gallon tank soon and I was thinking of putting in a few dalmatian mollies. Would they be compatible with guppies, neon tetras, and zebra danios? I heard that mollies don't do very well with other fish.

Hi. I currently have sailfin mollies, regular (pearl) mollies with dwarf gouramis; guppies; red eye tetras; otos; clown pleco and a krib. This is in a 55g, but they all get along.

I have never had neon tetras or danios, so someone else hopefully will weigh in onthem.

Good luck with your tank!

Provided theres enough room for everyone, they will exist together...mollies are great with most fish, but are lil piglets and fin nippers...I have a dalmation molly ..goodluck

A good rule of thumb when choosing varieties of fish for a community tank is to go with species that are similar in size.. although there are exceptions to that rule.. anyways my advice, based solely on my own experiences, is not to mix Neons with Mollies in a tank that small.. Neons are a lot more prone to stress related diseases and Mollies can get very aggressive when establishing and maintaining a pecking order, which could stress Neons in a 20gal.

I agree with Richard. While my mollies and neons were ok together, in a 67gal, the mollies were aggressive.

I have mollies in my community tank w/ neons and have never had a problem. I do have LOTS of plants and hiding places. Everyone gets along great.

I have a 70g and currently all I have in it are 5 green cories, 2 honey gouramies, and 1 dalmatian molly. I had the molly first, and he had the tank to himself for quite a while. After I added some of the new fish, he was fine with them, but around eating time he'll chase them and won't let anyone else near "his" food. He's pretty greedy, but so far he hasn't hurt anyone, just chased them. Luckily the tank has plenty of room for everyone at the moment. Good luck! (:
