Normal For BLACK MOLLYS?

So I have just started my new tank, about 3-4 weeks ago. Now I have read about the Nitrogen Cycle, and taken tests and everything. Yesterday we found out my Mollys where about to die because of the low PH level, so I rushed to the store, and bought this PH stuff, it worked PERFECTLY! The Mollys seemed VERY happy after I put in the right amount. Now Patty(my pregnant black molly) is soon to drop(give birth) and my new male Black molly Bill, well he's not doing so good happy wise, well I guess he is, but he is always sitting under the bridge, coming up for feedings, and getting scared whenever the tank moves. He doesn't swim around, except when Patty does. He follows her around like a lost puppy. But me and my mom where just concerned because, we don't know what is normal for Black Mollys. We are reading lots of stuff about them, and how to keep a heathly tank. But tips would be great. We also have 3 tetra's, which they get along great with. But ok the main problem is: Are fish arn't normal, they don't swim around! What am I doing wrong

Please I will take all the advice I can get!

Need a little more info on the subject. Test the water if nothing is wrong monotor them for a bit to see any behavioral changes. It does not seem like anything is wrong. This is normal Molly behavior. The dominant male will pair off with a female and chase other males away from her, he will also follow her around everywhere.

Ok, that puts a little weight of my shoulders. You see Patty was my first fish, I trained her (or she trained herself) to go up to the surface when I open the latch door. SO I opened the latch door, and Patty came around the corner of the plant, but her tail was still under it. So I placed a tiny pinch of food in the tank, NO ONE CAME UP. The tetra's didn't even do there normal flip out stage (they go all crazy cause something els is in the tank). And, well me and my mom are just very worried, bcause everyone in the tank stays in there own little corner, but NO ONE ate dinner! But my mom did feed them a medium snack a few hours earlier, so that also takes weight off my shoulder. But, there just not moving! I think they may have like live bearer disease or something! I'm just really scared of losing them.

Hi,
The advise given in your other thread holds true for this thread.
Your tank is probably not cycled.
What test kit are you using? Most here recommend API Master test kit, it's very reliable, where the strips are not.

What are your readings for ammonia, nitrites and nitrates?

This will help everyone here help determine if your fish are ill or suffering the effects of an uncycled tank.
If your readings are NOT 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, 5-10 nitrates, you should be doing daily water changes.

You really shouldn't mess with your ph, otherwise it will always be fluctuating. Your fish should be able to adapt to your ph.

Your fish don't need a snack, feed them once or twice daily and only the amount they will eat in a few minutes.

Good luck.

I did a test last night and the readings where:
0 Ammonia
0 Nitrates
and 7 nitrates.
I also woke up this morning and everyone was running around like crazed people! I opened the latch door and everyone came up, and then everyone ate. My dad said they were like that at 3 in the morning as well. So mostly all the weight is off my shoulders.

Continued good luck to you.

My dad works from 6 in the morning to 3 at night. I don't know how he survives! Oh Patty is my pregnant molly, and yesterday I read about Dropsy, but the vet said it wasn't, but I would like to know the symtons of Dropsy.

Glad to hear your fish are OK. Here is some information of Dropsy in case you still need it.

It doesn't sound that Molly is prone to Dropsy though. Is your molly Balloon Molly?
