Huge Livebearer at LFS!

Yesterday I was at the LFS looking for some shrimp for my tank. As usual I had to look in all their tanks and see what they had gotten in lately and I saw something that completely threw me for a loop. In a tank full of adult gouramis was a fish that looked like a creamsicle molly that was the same size! I am almost positive it was a molly because it was thick bodied (not thin like a swordtail) and was at least 4.5 maybe even 5 inches! This was the most monsterous livebearer I have ever seen! At that point I though about the 6 mollies crammed into my sister's overstocked 10 gallon tank and felt so bad for them. I told her how big this one was and she didn't believe me. How long does it take for them to reach their adult size? Do they all get that big or was this one just a freak of nature?

There is another kind of Molly, I think its called a giant sailfin or something, it was probably one of those. I have heard regular Mollies can get 4 inches but I have never seen one that big.
Yikes!! Somebody needs to infect your sister with MTS lol

I saw some huge Molly looking fish in the angelfish tank at our hospital. It's probably the same species.

I'm trying to infect her but she's resisting the temptation......... To bad her fish have to suffer because of it (she also has a betta in a 1/4 gallon bowl).

These are sailfin mollies, Poecilia velifera.
They get to 6 inches.
Most you see in the stores are 6-8 months old and pond bred in Florida.
