Hiya. I had a black female molly die today. She was 4 years old. Water seems ok. Temp 79 ammonia 0 nitrite 0 nitrate 15. So was it old age? Also this leaves me with just one molly left will she be ok on her own or should i get some friends for her. Thanks in advance.
Sorry to hear about your loss. I would get your girl some friends. I had just one in my tank before, and she was hiding constantly and just not happy. The minute I put in 2 more, she was busy making friends and never hides anymore.
The average lifespan of a Molly is actually 4 years, so yes she lived a full life.. as per what the others said, Mollies do well in a school of at least 4-6.. leaving your last girl on her own would be kinda like how Will Smith was in 'I Am Legend'.. alone and too lonely.
Another three Molly females could work, but try to get fish around her size or the possibility of aggression between them increases, especially around feeding time.
