i just bought a lyre-tailed dalmation molly male and a regular dalmation female the male is very friendly to the female now i wonder when they have babies are they just going to be all kinds of different mollies the lady at the fish store said dalmation mollies are crosses between black and silver mollies so the babies could be black, silver, or dalmation does anyone know if i am going to have a huge multi-breed family of mollies? could i get some that are sailfins or do i have to throw that trait into the genetic pool too? From my understanding, to get a direct strain of color, you have to do some very intense breeding, but with petstore fish, they're bred rather randomly, and just sorted by coloration. So you have the potential to have any color of molly you've seen in the store.

Also, unless the fish already have the genetics for sailfin (ie, had ancestors crossed with sailfin) they will NOT randomly show it, you would have to toss that into the mix yourself.

thanks folks i can't wait to see what my molly pool looks like i noticed tiny yellow specks of color on both of my mollies so maybe i'll get some yellow ones when they have babies i will keep ya'll informed Lee
