MARINELAND REPLIES TO BIO SPIRA QUESTIONS

I am a first time Bio Spira user. I wan't quite sure what to expect so I wrote the company. The next morning, I had this reply;

Subject: RE: Tech help

Hi and thanks for the inquiry! I would say with any sign of ammonia you may not be fully cycled yet. However, did you use any other conditioning products, such a StressCoat, Ammoloc, etc? Some of them can give ?false? ammonia readings (see link below). However, with Bio-spira the typical cycle time is about 3-7 days. I would suggest a partial 25% water change and check the reading again after. Another issue may be ammonia in you tap water if you have topped off the tank at all. I know our city has fairly high ammonia readings right out of the tap, something like 3 PPM.Also since the fish don?t seem too affected I would feel comfortable leaving for the week or so. Signs of stress from ammonia would be clamped fins, lethargy and/or gasping at the surface. I hope this helps!

Thank you!

Praises to them for their speedy reply. I am sold on this product and will never cycle any other way. I found a source 2 hours south in Minnesota, but if I hadn't I was prepared to pay the $$$ and get it from F&S. I recommend it................no hassle, done in one day, fish in next day, did water change 25% today, and all is well. Tank is clear, fish are happy.............and me, well after my fishless cycling fiasco..............I am over the moon. Even at the high price if you have to buy on line, it is worth every cent to not go through all that messing around, testing, etc.

Thanks kat, I agree. I have found it at my local fish store. Totally surprised me, cause I thought I had to drive all the way to Anchorage to get it, and was talking to the Fish Lady in my LFS, she looked at me with surprise, and told me she keeps it in a frig. in her office, "DIDN'T I KNOW", well I'd never been in her office, and wouldn't dream of looking in some hidden spot........Moral of the story, ASK, maybe a store closer would have it, or get it if you told them how good it is!

I totally feel the same way. That the only way I cycle my tanks with. It's totally worth the money.

Just a question for those who have used it. I was having trouble getting my tank to cycle so I added bio-spira. The tank had already been set up for 1 month and had a few fish in it. I hadn't even gotten a nitrite reading yet. I did a water change and added bio-spira. It has been in my tank for 2 weeks, and the ammonia is now at zero, but my nitrites have been between 2 and 5 ppm for days. My fishies seem fine and show no signs of stress, but I didn't expect it to take more than a week. I haven't done a water change since I added it because I didn't want to slow down the cycle. Do you think I should do a water change, or just leave it.

I used BioSpira in my 75g as well and it was fantastic and quick! Unfortunately I have to order mine online because there is no retailer in a 100 mile radius that stocks it. Oh well! The things you do for quality...
