hmm, they're usually found a bit more to the south. I see why it would be an interesting find. you'll have to be careful when you step out into the yard

I used to have one living on the back porch in Missouri, i used to feed it every evening until it had babies, then i poured gasoline on it and set it and babies on fire!

Cool pictures,

Actually they are in West VA, VA, Kentucky, and TN so I would say def would b in South Carolina as well...
We would run up on them when grew up in WV and VA, saw them in my grandparents attic in KY and have killed them here in our yard/sheds in TN.

Defiently a bug I don't wanna see close....

Now give me a garden spider, I would protect the web for months just to get to watch it like a pet. Im also known for feeding them.

Set them on fire?? I usually use chemical fragrant sprays to kill spiders like Lysol or something.

NASTY!!!!!!!!!!!! Ewwwwwwwww LOL Me and spiders not a good match. They (Black Widows) are all over the place here in South Carolina. Spiders are one of my biggest fears along with crossing over bridges, high ones that I can see over the sides.
When I play in my garden I'm fully clothed, long sleeves, long pants, gloves and covered in bug spray from head to toe. I've also seen a few Brown Recluse (sp?) talk about getting chills.

We've got them around here. I leave them alone, have never seen any in the house.

Cool. That's one spider that would definitely get moved outside (and I would likely have about the same reaction Slug had if I found it crawling on me... though I'd likely react badly and shoot, rather than smash. )

They are beautiful, but I have to say the creep me out! I'm fine with anything but large wolf spiders, brown recluse, and black widows. Oops, I forgot scorpions.

We had several here when I bought this house about 5 years ago, and they were all around doorways (thank goodness, outside only), but once I started spraying every three months, they've gone away. Please don't let me jinx myself.

I did have live rounds and a magazine inserted at that point. I just figured i'd rather flick it off my leg then smash it hehe.

This one was found outside by the pool in an upside down flower pot.

Brown Recluses in the garden? That seems rather unusual/unlikely if it really is a brown recluse. They're pretty shy and prefer dark crevices.

I used to see them alot in arizona. They say once they nest somewhere they will never leave.....so I guess you have to kill them...or just be really good at avoiding them.

Whoa BR in your garden? Kill it! Those guys are nasty and I don't mean in nasty looking. I saw a video of a man get bitten on his thigh and he ignored the pain for a few days. All of a sudden his leg turned from a tiny red circle around the wounded area into a medium plate size circle. Then the venom started to really effect his skin and he finally decided to have a doctor's appointment. The doctor had to remove the skin and he had this big chunk of meat missing from his thigh. :X

I killed it with a shovel! I've seen shows about them on TV as well. I know one of our members was bitten by one. The bite from one of these has life long side effects.
