thats fine..every little bit helps I use to have huge fish that made a ton of waste so I know where you are at...but water changes every other day kept them alive for years...until I Had to rehome them ....

hi vahida1!! the only thing to do is keep up with the water changes with some prime or stress coat+...there will always be ammonia in the tank as goldies are big poo'rs and leave a ton of waste daily ..thats why the 20 gals are recommended for one goldfish...as far as carbon, I do use it but it has to be changed every 3 weeks or it seeps all the nastys back into the tank...alot of members choose not to run it though which is ok also....so in the 10 gal, water changes are the only thing to do to keep the ammonia down ...maybe you can look on craigslist.org for a great setup cheap in you area? goodluck to you and your daughters fishy adventures

You add the prime to the water before you add it to the tank....

For water conditioner I use Stress Coat+ it has ammonia remover in it as well. If your'renot using it, I reccommend it. Good stuff!
