Your little boy is gorgeous, I like the way your tank looks. Since you're thinking of redoing it, you can always transfer some plants into the 5g.

A little betta girl would love a 5g planted tank, it's a great idea.
I'm used to the 10g also and am hesitant to advise anything less than a 10 for a betta, but several of our members have bettas in 5g's. I'd say go for it!

g'morning Red Rose. I never like to play around with the PH that I have. That is why I usually only get SA fish that like that lower PH. It does keep me from keeping more types of fish, but I think in the long run its better for the fish if I just keep it where its at, and get fish that like the lower PH that I have. Thanks for the tip tho! :-)

Oh.. my water is very soft and acidic, the PH is usually always around 6.4. So that leaves guppies out. Well, I can always enjoy everyone else's photos, and watch them swim around when Im at the LFS. lol...

Thank you Red Rose. :-) Dreamcatchers are not so hard, once you know how, its the wrapping the feathers in cotton thread that takes time. I have heard that guppies can be lil brats sometimes lol.. but they sure are pretty! Ive never kept them, but have been tempted from time to time.
