Ok. In a 55gal, with a red tail shark, you could keep 5 Glossolepis incisus (Red Salmon Rainbowfish) all males (easy to tell since females are olive-silver) and 6 Melanotaenia boesemani, unsexed (hard to tell as juveniels). This means keeping 20inch fish of Red Salmon plus maybe 21 of Boesemani so you are likely covered there! Yes they will school together.

Well I'm in process with my 55 gallon...I already have my RTS and in a couple of weeks I'm going to start with the rainbows. Since you breed rainbows I thought you'd be a good person to ask... I was thinking 3-4 of two different similar varieties (so they might skoal together)... what do you think the male/female ratio should be? I'm not planning on breeding... I just want them to show their colors. Thanks, Jenn

In my new 55 gallon I want to keep rainbow fish for sure... I just haven't decided on the variety...they are all so beautiful. I also want a red tail shark. I'm sure I'll post many questions in the days to come... I'll be planting and starting to cycle my tank next weekend. Thanks again, Jenn

I'm afriad in my case they're nothing exotic. I'm going to install a glass divider and use them for betta's. I'm working on getting a couple breeding pairs from MM and a friend of hers so they get those. However I may use one for some DP's. I've been craving one. And Pink has me craving a puffer tank. Almost bought a GSP on kijiji the other day but I couldn't think of a way to speed cycle a saltwater tank.
