    Hi!

There's a place on Rt 34 that I believe does ponds. I plan to pick their brains and a couple of my fish books have pond information in it. Unfortunately, my neck of the woods grow "Connecticut potatoes" (rocks) so I will need that pick.

I've bought all my fish from PurrFect Pets. I like the store and I like working with Marc there. He's a Fishlorian and has a 120G Discus tank. The nicest, well informed fellow I've met. I lost another guppy - it goes with the territory. I love Discus but they would be too temperamental for me. How exciting that there may be a possible mating! The closest I get to Discus are Angels. I also rescued a betta from WalMart. He's loving his 10G tank. Nice to see his fins unclamped and swimming all around.

Sounds like you have a really nice tank. Thanks for getting back to me. Not many people around me are into fish. They are starting to look at me rather oddly when I start talking about behavior and how the cichlids color up. Have a great day - gots to go to work...Uggghhh

    Hi Jess,

We're practically neighbors! I'm about 25-30 minutes in Shelton. My son lives in Woodmont off Merwin Avenue. My dream would be to have a pond but I'll have to do the research between now and this coming spring so we know what we're doing. My hubby is not toooooo handy. I already planted a seed in my son's head letting him know we may need his help. Right now I'm in the process of winterizing my gardens (quite a few) and it's so much work! Cleaned all my 3 fish tanks this weekend - glad that's done! Had 3 of my new guppies, one platy and one cory die from ammonia poisoning and am keeping a eye on the tank to make sure I don't lose any more. The cichlid tank is faring better. Where do you buy your fish?

    Hi Jess,

I was looking at your profile and noticed the high 86 temp for your discus tank as well as the lower pH of 6.4. I assume thats on purpose. Is there another forum that you use for Discus? I actually just got back into having fish and looking into taking my 55g out of the storage and getting a mix of discus/angelfish.

    thank you

    Jess,

Thanks for responding. I am really surprised that you're in CT and have such a magnificent pond. Your pond looks like it sits in a tropical site. It is lovely. Maybe some day, we'll do the pond in the back. I'm really glad that I made the decision to resurrect my tanks. I'm enjoying watching the fish, their habits and colors. I don't know too many people who are "into" fish! I'm in Shelton - are you near? I found a place in West Haven called "Tropical Fish Distributors". I plan to call them to see if they wholesale to the public. I'll let you know. Enjoy your week.

    Bonnie

Taxes by the shore are incredibly high if your house is winterized. Less if you aren't. Ours are still old style cottages, I think very few are left like this. They tear them down and build multi million dollar homes. Crazy stuff. We love our cottages the way they are. : )

Yes, I remember the target ship. It was amazing... I watched it slowly disappear over time. I heard there were still bombs around it and it was dangerous to dive or boat around the ship, tho many did anyway. Yes, it is so very expensive to retire here, the property taxes take their toll for sure. A lot of folks are moving away due to this. Winters are wonderful and mild compared to inland... I do love it here. :-)

I confess its been a while since I've spent the whole summer up there. We just closed the cottages (in the rain) last weekend.
You must remember the ship on the sandbar? We used to sail out and around it. Used to creep me out as we were just on a sunfish or hobiecat with that huge ship looming overhead. We've had tons of fun up there.
Wouldn't you want to retire on Cape? Has it gotten too expensive year round to retire up there? I've been up there in the Winter for visits too. It get quiet, but is still so beautiful.

Hi Jess, yes, I know Brewster well. We live in Eastham, as you know not far away from Brewster at all. I have lived here for about 19 years now and hope to be here for awhile longer before finding a small town somewhere for my husband and I to retire to off cape. Hope you had a wonderful summer here. :-)
