I guess this is the right window to respond from, never used or seen a forum message system like this LOL.
Anyway no air stone, what you see is a simple "hang on the back" aquarium filter and the plants have had their soil washed off with warm water and then suspended in the filter void that is filled with running water from the filter motor. The plants are suspended in the water 1/2 " above the root by dental floss attached to 2" finisher nails in the wall. The reason I don't place them in the aquarium directly is because them I have to deal with the snail, Pleco, and fish possibly eating at the roots also having the roots in the filter stream forces nutrients over the roots constantly helping remove nitrates which is the main purpose.
Here is a pic of the hang filter sitting on top of my aquarium when I first started 7 weeks ago with no plants. Click the image to open in full size.

Hi. I goofed up sending you an answer to your picture question and instead reported you to the moderators LOL. Anyway here is my answer about my nitrate machine.

Well, although this was my idea I am not the first to think of it. Basically what you see are two low light fast growing plants known as Hedra Ivy and Dracaena bamboo being hydroponically grown in aquarium water with no soil. The purpose is to provide a way to use up nitrates which is the end result of the aquarium cycle and the only thing that can consume nitrates is plant growth. The intent is to get all the benefits of a heavily planted aquarium with water plants to remove toxins without all the room being taken up and all the special needs water plants have like excessive light which causes algae, need for C02, rotting plants in water, discoloration of water, and having to get wet taking care of them. Outside plants can be easily changed, cleaned, pruned, using window and house light, with unlimited growth space and no contamination of the water, plus pound per pound house plants are much cheaper and can eaily be replaced. That's it.
