Re: FLBettaCouple's tanks

I had a weird feeling while looking at these pictures...

... I felt I was looking into my future!! Eek! hahaha

No really. They all look like they're in great shape. You must enjoy going into every room and having a tank.. or 3.

thanks, we love them all.. it's great how every one of them has a distinct personality. It's relaxing to lie down and just see them all around the room swimming around, doing their thing. ..when i'm not changing water, cleaning tanks, feeding, treating, adding vitamins, changing filters, etc., etc... !

how will you look after them? have 2 tanks....one for girls and one for boys so they dont breed? will they get along ok in a same sex group? is it JUST the girls that are affected? in which case can they all just be kept together? i have 2 guppies with bent spines and i cant even consider culling, so have kept them, but will not be allowed to breed! the pregnancy would prob strain the back further and highly likely the trait would reproduce. dunno how long bent spine fish live for compared to their peers? hope this was just a fluke of water chemistry or something and not a resessive trait your breeding pair both carry, although as its only affected girls it sounds like a genetic fault on the x chromosome carried by the girls .

Re: FLBettaCouple's tanks

actually, as luck would have it.. the 4 surviving babies are all female. so we only have female platys. the platy that had the fry died and i think the babies are the result of in-tank breeding at the pet shop. the babies were unexpected and pretty unhealthy.

Re: FLBettaCouple's tanks

your tanks look great
i have just upgraded to a 3ft tank from a 2 foot tank

i have a ghost knife, clown loach, 1 male 2 female platty's, 1m2f sword tails, 1m balloon molly, 4 dwarf gourami's, 2 pepper catfish, 1 silver shark, 1m1f angel fish, 2 unkown's, 1 sucker fish, 1 big catfish (sort of looks like shark also)

they say ghost knifes are nocternal but my ghost knife (aka dart) loves to swim around the tank even if the tank light is on...i spoke to the fish shop i got him from and they said he must be happy (lets hope so anyway)

was told about this site by poppet, they have lots of info so thought i would come on and learn stuff also

lol

Re: FLBettaCouple's tanks

thanks.. sounds like quite a tank there that you have although the pleco and big catfish will need a bigger tank soon. if you post pics of your 'unknowns' in our fish id forum, i bet there are some members who can ID them for you.

The Pleco is the sucker fish that you list. It is an algae eater and they can grow very large, depending on what species you have.

You also have some potentially large fish amongst the others. The clown loach will grow to around 12", the silver shark about the same, the angels will reach around 6" and who knows about the unknown?

I would suggest that you start looking for a larger tank soon, as the can grow quite quickly and it won't take long for your tank to become overstocked.

Anna, can I suggest that you check out youtube.com? You can post your videos there and then link them to the forum so that everyone can see your tanks.
