According to the blood parrot info it need at least 42 gallons. http://www.fishlore.com/aquariummaga...ot-cichlid.htm

There are a lot of other fish that would love a 20 gallon. Please don't put a blood parrot in a 20 gallon. It will become stunted and die a painful death.

The fish will be stunted. What that means is it will stop growing but its organs will continue to grow. This will cause the fish severe pain and a shortened life.

Good morning,

Congrats on the new 20g tank!

I highly recommend that you not keep a Bloody Parrot (Blood Red Parrot) in a 20g tank. As fishingman001 has pointed out, the fish will outgrow this tank and become stunted if it isn't in a large enough home. Bloody Parrots are also large waste producers.

As for your comment in post #6 quoted below:

"All u people think that ever fish won't live it will for a long time."

we only want what is best for the fish, what is best for the fish will also be the best for you and your tank. Of course it's your tank and you can stock it with whatever you like. Whether or not you choose to listen to our advise is also up to you.

My largest Bloody Parrot is 9x6.5 inches and growing. I highly suggest having at least 2 Bloody Parrots and in no less than 55g for long term housing. These fish really enjoy the company of others of their own kind. As juveniles these fish frighten easily and the best comfort for them is a buddy of their own kind with lots of hiding places.

I hope you reconsider your stocking options and do what is best for the fish.

There are photos and a video of my Bloody Parrots in my profile if you care to take a look.

Curious, how are you cycling your tank?

Have you considered adding a "center piece" decoration in the middle? It's a little sparse in the center. But if you like that look, then that's great too

Hi Fishyboy. Adding stresscoat and salt has nothing to do with the cycling of a tank. Do you know what your water parameters are?
