Re: timg's aquariums

I was talking to FLBC about this very subject a couple of days ago, and saying that I would need a container complete with power to be able to move everything safely....

what you need to do is change your name to Pedro Menendez, say you're from mexico city and move the operation over (come up through texas like the terrorists and mexicans do).. and try not to speak american. you'll need to learn spanish so you can go about here without speaking the language of the country.. you could probably get more than enough money from the US gov't then to pay for the shop lease and operation expenses. :P

great operation you have there.. getting 150% out of your space and resources! ingenious!

Re: timg's aquariums

You have me dreaming about a nitrate filter again. I looked at the link you sent me a long time ago about the coil version, but I think yours with the garden growing looks more my style also. I think it is really quite interesting, cause just last night I was thinking about how easily my platy fry could go into the nitrate filter. You could build a tank of sorts on top, that holds the Preg. females just before birth, then the fry would go down through the outlet to the filter......all by themselves, no muss, no fuss! Then when they are big enough for a tank with other fish they could go in and make room for more.

Re: timg's aquariums

Had some more arrivals, and some bad news too. We lost Joe today, our yellow sailfin molly, completely unexpected and of unknown causes. I suspect it was his time.

The good news is the new arrivals, yep, more! This time it's Albino Guppies. They arrived this morning, just five of them so far, but it looks like mum is still busy.

Of the three batches of eggs from the angels, one turned out to be in-fertile, so either I was too quick taking them away or the male didn't do his job. The other two batches are coming on nicely and one of the pics below shows the furthest on in their container.

He was a real beauty, but I have about 50 more of his coming on, so it won't be long before we have another just like him!

Well I guess with your success rate with breeding, no fish is ever unique.

Re: timg's aquariums

my LFS had a pair of angels laying eggs in one of the sell tanks...and their were 4 others in there with them
if i hadnt had to come home, i could have watched them all day...and if i had my new tank set up, i would have gotten them

Re: timg's aquariums

These guppies are ready to go to the LFS now. 27 of them, in the bag and waiting to go to their new home. these are around 9 weeks old and large enough now for the store to take. I could breathe a sigh of relief, if I didn't have so many more fry coming along! I have worked a deal with these and will be bringing home an adult female bristlenose, so we can start them breeding!

Re: timg's aquariums

and there's more! After moving 27 guppies and 40 mollies to the LFS over the last week, I discovered about 12 guppies in the live-breeders tank this morning! On top of them, we have another 100+ wrigglers in the angel breeding tank. Life just gets busier every day!

Re: timg's aquariums

Do you bring them to a chain-LFS at all? If so, which one?

And when you bring them, do they give you any exchange of store credit or anything like that?

When I first started finding young in the tanks, I traded them for equipment etc, but now we seem to be supplying on a regular basis, the store pay me the same as they pay their regular distributors for the fish.
