Filtration: Triple Undergravel filter + aquaponicsl
Substrate: aquarium gravel
Plants: Silk artificial trees, shrubs and grasses
caves built into a hill at one end
Sunken village, complete with houses, water mill, (Air operated), roads, street lights and a church through the middle
Water column above the center
a large castle type structure at the other end
Anyone who has an old scaletrix set going spare, let me know! (I need one of these to make the road)
made a start on the new tank. Got the gravel, filters and water in, setup the lights inside the tank and using my normal method of pre-loaded filters, put the goldfish in there today. Here's a couple of very dark pictures. (Sorry, but it is like 1am!)

very cool! i love those lights.. is that the normal lighting or just night-time lighting? do goldfish like night-time lighting or were the lights on just for the pics?
8', is it 180 gal US? That must have been a job getting it in place. Do you have to find inside spots to place the tank? Here in AK outside walls get too cold in winter. I am having a devil of a time finding just the right spot for the 125 gal, something that is also supported underneath the floor with a downstairs wall. So the compromise is to have it on an outside wall, with Styrofoam behind as the background. This will also require moving a built in book case! But who needs books! I already gave up the kitchen counter for the 55!

The lighting is decorative mainly, and supported by much stronger canopy lights. It is just to give an effect. They are one of my little creations that I have made using low voltage garden lights and water piping. When I get time, I'll do a thread on how to make them.

how big is the big tank?

The tank is 100 gallons imperial, made specially for the space I had available. It's dimensions are 96" x 18" x 16".

It came in through the window. It was the only way that we could get the monster in! The whole tank is made from 10mm glass, so it weighs a great deal and with the water as well, the shelf has to be pretty substantial.
FINALLY! At last my guppy has popped, releasing another 60ish fry to join the rest! Now I am in bother! Over 350 fish and NO SPARE TANKS!
(I really have to get round to building the other breeder tanks.... been so busy with work lately I just haven't had the time to do it, but now I have to make the time, before the gouramis and angels get busy again!)

out of curiosity - what are you feeding all of these fry?
It might sound stupid, but I've tried the liquifry and they won't touch it, so they get ground up fish flakes and love it! (I am also breeding brine shrimp which they adore.)

actually, that's exactly what i did for our platy fry.. i put several types of flakes in a baggie and crushed them to powder with a rolling pin, then put the powder in a container to feed them from. we've been feeding the mahachai BBS.
Just found a new potential food source for your mahachis while reading another article on breeding gouramis. Apparently, cooked egg yolk squeezed througha cloth is great for the young, and cheap too!

we've been working on refining the BBS production to minimize cost, frequency of starting a new batch and wasted cysts. On the latest experiment we've fed the fry enough BBS 2x a day to feed well over 100. (for experiment findings) The hatchery has been feeding them for 3 full days now and continues to be productive.. from only 1/2 tsp of artemia cysts and 1 tbsp of aquarium salt.
thanks for the reminder on the egg yolks, i had completely forgotten about that food source and will have to start working it into their diets soon.
