Finally got the 20g tall.

Took four weeks but I finally got it and it sure does need a cleaning. It's mostly water stains and a bit of junk on the bottom but no green monster.

I was told that the previous owner used CAR cleaner or something like that but I'm still trying to find out if he used it in the actual inside of the tank or what. I still have to clean it with vinegar so I assume that no harm was really done if it was used on the inside?

The stand has some rust spots but I'm not really worried about that. I don't have any type of sander/grinder anyway so not much I can do.

The light works fine and it comes with a non-adjustable submersible heater. I assume it's one that does 78. The hood fits really odd and is a bit warped but mostly just the corners. So, not the normal fit but it gets the job done.

I'm quite excited as the tank is only 6ft from my desk so it will be quite enjoyable to watch. I found some nice fake plants to put in it that Angelfish should enjoy. I'm currently seeding the filter media in my other tank so it'll be two weeks before I can add any fish. In that case, I'm going to go slowly and enjoy the process of cleaning the tank, gravel, and the plants. Than setting it all up. Can't wait to see that AC50 in action!

Anyway, I'll add pics as I go along.

If you're seeding it with established media...you should be able to add fish immediatly. If you're not, what are you feeding the bacteria with?

I have used Turtle Wax "Heavy Duty Rubbing Compound" to clean my tanks before. That is most likely what the other person used. It does not have any damaging chemicals in it.

There is a thread on this forum by CWO4GUNNER's (Personal breakthrough cleaning glass haze & mineral spots) with all of the details of using this product.

Nice tank........

It was actually CLR and I'm still trying to find out if it was used inside the tank. I'm getting vinegar tonight and plan on cleaning it tomorrow night.

The reason why I'm not adding fish now isn't to do with the whole filter media stuff, it's mainly because I have to clean it and I have to do bills at the end of the month before I can see what I can afford and how soon.

Whenever I do get around to finding out my budget, I will transfer the new seeded media to the tank and get some fish.

EDIT: The CLR was used inside the tank as I can see the swirl marks. I than discovered that the tank is just covered in scratches. Some as long as 6 inches and deep enough that you can feel them easily with a finger. Just a simple mess. After hearing what it would take to get the tank to a point where it 'should/might' be ok, I called around and can get a replacement tank for $35. Guess I'll be drinking water and eating air for a few weeks to pay for that. Sigh, my luck of 'free' stuff is horrible!

Well, something good finally happened to me, I found a good deal that is actually good! A co-worker is selling a tank and stand dang cheap. Going over to her house tomorrow night to take stock and maybe a purchase. So, the 20g tall isn't going to happen in the near future. Hopefully, I will have a new thread in the next few days with a new tank.
