Going to try to keep this thread going of my planted 10

I put this together this morning;
1 inch of soil, an inch of gravel and water. handfull of gravel from my 55 and some pillow stuffing to the back of the filter.
It was amazingly not messy to do.
If I were not so impatient I would have waited for plants to arrive. But that's the prob with impatience.
I hope not to have too much of a mess when I plant the plants.
I plan on placing my betta in here but not till I test the water, wanna wait a few hours before I do it.

Looks great Beth. That Rope looks like it is coming along nicely. Can you share any info on the substrate?

Not much to tell about the substate. I got the word "hyponex" from Walstads websites and this is what I ended up with. Our hardware store has all kinds of technical sounding au natural soils and thought I was outta luck but when I walked outside saw a gigantic pile of this soil I ended up with (there is a pic of it in the first post of this thread). I weeded out the small sticks and few pebbles and that's it. Added the gravel.

Ken, thank you.

Your tank looks great! After all these years, I never knew people could actually use ordinary soil or kitty litter in their tank.

Thanks for the info Beth. I am looking forward to more updates as this tank matures. Walstads book is great. I reread it all the time and though my next tank will be high tech I really like this approach. Thanks for sharing!
