| | Fish Keeper | winter is coming . . . The high temp today was 83 degrees farenheit. Tomorrow is supposed to be 85 (and windy). Wednesday, however, is supposed to have a high of 61 - with a chance for rain (I hope so). So, tomorrow I bring in the cleaning crew from my pond. The tank is all set up and running, and I brought in the filter pads I had sitting out in the pond over the summer. Lots of nice bacteria to keep the cycle going. Of course, it is supposed to get back to the upper 80's by the weekend, but I'd rather bring them in now. I have three times the filtration recommended for my 40 gallon tank (a filter that is for 40 gallons tanks and a filter that is for 80 gallon tanks). They are both older filters, and I no longer have the paperwork on them, but they still work great. I think they are Topfin brand, but I don't remember. I also have an air pump blowing in four airstones for extra bubbles. I'll try to get some decent pics of the fishies when I bring them in. And yes, I know the tank will be majorly overstocked, but it is just for the winter to keep them from dieing when the temp gets too cold outside. |

| | Fish Keeper | Okay, well, I brought in my cleaning crew today. They are:
3 cories - (I 'rescued' one from a friend of a friend who had some in with an oscar and only one survived, then I got two more to school with the one I rescued - oh, and the oscar went to my friend who had a 75 gallon tank for it).
1 chinese algae eater chameleon - (normal gray/green when I bought it, went to green with yellow patches, then to solid yellow then to yellow with green patches, then back to solid yellow.)
2 plecos - probably sailfins - (they have gone from 1/2 inch when I bought them two years ago to now measure 10 1/2 inches and 11 inches long).
So - here are the pics of them ready to go into the tank: |

Robin | My birds stay outside year round. They have a roof over part and a tree over part and nice warm nests...they have always stayed outside.
It is a job to move the fishies, but I would rather keep them alive through the winter than leave them outside to die from the cold. One of these days I'll have room to put in a good sized pond...maybe...I hope. |
