| New fish tank idea Hi guys i havent openned a thread in a long while (moving and life) well im back!! Last week-end i got myself a new 25G tank from a garage sale. It passed all the test so far and it ready to go. Its got the basic light and filter. The big Question is What is it going to go for? I want some input and idea, thing imight not think of for my new tank. All i know is i will get it planted with anubias and some java fern (maybe some java moss)
i apreciate the feed back even if its a tank i already have. |

| How about a livebearer tank?
If you weren't going to plant it, I would suggest cichlids, like convicts or jewels or something.
Or maybe a tropical community with your favorite types of tetras and a bolivian or german blue ram? |

| Livebearer are a good idea, but im always afraid to have a clogged up tank because they reproduce too fast. So i would stick with an all male tank |

| All male livebearers would be beautiful, for sure. Especially if you have a few male guppies in there.
Please keep us posted on what you decide on. It sounds really great! |

| I will keep everyone posted ( even if so far everyone is just you) but keep on the idea coming. I got time for more suggestion since i still have to cycle it. It will go pretty fast i will use gravel from an other of my tank (along other thing i will split or move from other tank) |

| I have another idea, piggybacking on Shawnie's :
How about tetras, cories, and a great big gourami like a 3-spot or a pearl or maybe a keyhole cichlid as a centerpiece? |

| I vote an angel pair with a cory school.
Or a guppy tank.
Or a breeding cichlid pair (Jewel, Convict, Firemouth) |

| I back Shawnie with the neons, and the cories but I will add some ottos specially if you are planning on putting some plants. They keep my tank in pristine order. My 10 gal planted haven't got a single kind of algae on the plants or on the glass since I got them. Well good luck and nice to have you back. |

| i must admit i never had breeding pair of cichlid so it would be a novelty for me. but dont cichlid have a bad rep with plants? (got to say wifey is leaning toward small and colorfull fish so i might go with that) |

| I'm going to play off the livebearer idea. Livebearers (not guppies - too small) and a ctenopoma acutirostre, a.k.a. spotted african leaf fish, leopard bush fish, leopard gourami, spotted climbing perch.
It'll happily gobble up all the fry and they are FASCINATING to watch hunt, as they float around like a dead leaf. Also, unlike other leaf fish, they will readily eat prepared foods.
IMO a 25 is much too small for a pair of angels. Since it's a tall tank, one would work. Last edited by Shawnie; October 6th, 2009 at 04:03 PM.
Reason: please use the edit buttong for back to back postings :) TY |

and ive got a few pair of breeding angels and the 25g is great for just them..and some bottom feeders....but how do you know its a tall tank? which would be even better for a pair |

| 25 is a taller 20H. 24x12x20 I think.
The gourami, perch, bush and leaf fishes mentioned earlier are all the same fish. They top out at only 6 inches and do indeed eat fish one might think are too big, but a molly or swordtail is pushing it IMO. |

| Hi guys thanks again for the idea. My wife is pushing for small colorfull fish right now. So livebearer and tetra sound like a good idea right now. I saw some rummynose this afternoon at the LFS. I also saw alot of different type of loach (i love loach there fun little bugger so full of energie and curiosity) maybe a couple of cory to go with it. But cory car not too colorfull...well maybe beside the panda...but i have a bunch of those already in an other tank. I could very well see my low light planted jungle tank (cause i seem to have a too good green tumb and split my plant ALOT in the past 3 years) with some sand at the bottom for the loach. Some tetra for mid fish and top (and since there small i can get a bunch) and some livebearer to add a dash of different color. What do you guys think? | I think it sounds fabulous!
I can offer no information regarding the loaches, though. I have zero experience with them.
The wonderful thing about livebearers are even among the same species, there are a lot of color variations so you can have all kinds of fun
Please post pics when it's up and running! |
