| If I haven't wished you yet, WELCOME TO FISHLORE!
For your tank, you can cycle it faster if you can borrow or take a bit of filter media from an already established tank. Then your tank should be cycled and ready for fish in a few weeks. Hope to see pictures when it's done!
I don't want to say anything much about that, but I got my MTS from here. So maybe yeah. LOL I can assure you, you'll get plenty of good advices here, earn friendships and have fun along the way here. |

| Good morning DragonShark. Since you are using a filter from an established tank (assuming your 30g tank was cycled) you can go ahead and add a couple of fish. Don't add so many fish that it will throw your tank back into cycling and ammonia spikes. Keep and eye on your water chemistry, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites and 5-10 nitrates is what you're wanting . I recommend you have these readings for at least a week or 2 before you add more fish.
Best of luck and keep us posted.

I thought can only take some of the filter media from an established tank, didn't know includes filter as well. I guess I still have loads to learn, thank God for you Ken! |

| Hello Peacemaker. Yes, if you have an extra filter that is established from a cycled tank you can transfer the filter to any aquarium you want for an instant cycle. Just be sure not to overload the new tank with a lot of new fish at the same time. Always keep an eye on your water readings. By adding the fish slowly a couple at a time over a few weeks will help the good bacteria in the filter and the tank to gain strength and build more colonies.
You're too kind!

| Ummmmmm, I'm not 100% about how this works, but you may want to keep a close eye on those params. I'm not sure if that many danios at once will create a mini-cycle or if they will be eaten before that can happen. I know most FW "sharks" get really big or, like rainbows, like lots of room, so that's nice that you are upgrading for them. Last edited by iloveengl; September 19th, 2009 at 10:53 PM.

| A schooling fish of tetras would look good in your 30 gal. I love tetras. You can go with Cardinals or whichever is tetra is comfortable for you
I agree with iloveengl on adding too many feeder danios. I think adding maybe 10 at a time is better, just make sure your shark finishes them in less than 5-10 minutes then you can some more if you want so it won't effect your cycle and your bio-load. |

They just mess up your tank and your fish. Most fish can handle a range of ph, so long as it is not jumping up and down (which that PH up/down stuff will do - it's a total rip-off). Maybe check your fish's PH range and check if you do need to change. Then, if you must, you can affect PH through crushed coral, driftwood, umm, and other natural stuff that I can't think of right now. Seriously, though, it's usually not necessary to have it at an exact number, just a stable one. Last edited by iloveengl; September 20th, 2009 at 03:26 PM.

| the rainbow shark isnt going to eat your danios...if anything , you are going to have a HUGE ammonia spike as iloveengl said and all of them are going to go into a major shock..the best way to stock a tank is 3-4 fish at a time (5-6 inches of fish max for your tank) then wait a week of good readings and continue on..there are exceptions to every rule, but ill garuntee with the additions of 16-20 zebra's in a 30 gal all at once, is going to throw that tank into a huge mini cycle....
I also agree with iloveeangl that leaving the ph is best and the fish will acclimate...especially during the cycle process..it will change while that process goes on ... |
