Stock Limit

Applying the one inch per gallon rule, after I add my 6 Ottos on order, I think I've reached my limit. I am probably over once you allow for water displacement with rocks, etc., and I have not allowed for the snails.
Will having the two filters, and the airstones in place allow me to safely have extra stock? After removing most of the mollys, I'm having a lot less trouble controlling the amount of waste.
I'm not interested in adding new species, but the thought of extra clown loaches and silver dollars are what appeal to me at the moment.
I've calculated that potentially, I'd have 154 inches of fish once the ottos are introduced.

Hello Life. If they are in the 500L/132g tank and you're running two filters with a total of
1840gph I would say you are fine being a few inches over. I know you'll keep an eye on things!

IMO , the bigger tanks are not a good source of 1 inch per gal rule..its more of "do they seem to have enough space to swim/turn around/live comfortably and is their bioload not severe for the size tank" by the nekid eye....of course keeping up with extra filtration and water maintenance schedules is a must, but you know that already again, this is my feeling not the rule of thumb ...id say go for it if you think theres room for everyone to play nice in the sandbox

Shawnie has a very good point. Also being that you have large fish and small fish comes into play. For my 155g and what I'll do for my 265g is to make sure that all of my fish have at least 8 to 10 gallons of water that they can call their own. This has worked really well for me having large fish.

Good Morning All! It's 5:35am right now. The tank would hold approx. 155g if there was no decoration, so it would be fair to say allow around 130 plus gallons as is.
I am really confident with what the filters etc are doing now. It's taken a while to actually get comfortable with the process where you get a feel of what is going on in the tank. The bioload should not be a problem.
The swim area is the main sticking point my wife Chris and I ( I've been trying to get her to join - she is my anchor! ) have been discussing. We have to visualize the Angels fully grown, and I guess would have to wait 12 - 24 months to appreciate their impact.
Ken, I took on board in one of your threads re. large fish to volume ratio, plus I worked on 1 inch per gallon for the small fish, and that put me at the limit.

I think the answer is ordering all my food and accessories online. Temptation is too great having to pop into the LFS! Where I work, there are three within a couple of miles radius LOL. MTS is out of the question (remember my anchor).
The jury is still out. I must learn to be patient!

Sounds like you have everything under control Life. If your wife decides to join I suggest she use the name MrsLifesabeach teehee

Sometimes we all give in to temptation....

I thought LifesWife would be good, but guess what? I'd have absolutely no say on that score. Remember the pic? You couldn't see the thumbprint on the back of my head!
As for MTS, I'd send out the challenge Chris thinks that if she joins, she'd never get any work done! ( I think that's a hint ).
I'm working from home today btw.
