Getting Ready!

Monday I will be setting my brand new 20g tank. I am so excited and can't wait to set it up. I have everything I need. The first fish going in are some of Mare2009's (My grandmothers) Home bred platy's.=D They very nice and I can't wait to bring them home.I am taking five females. Then soon after I will be getting other fish. We will see how this goes with the platy's first. I will get pictures in when I get everything set and the platy's in.=]

I will NOT for forget the pics.lol. I am putting 5 platy's, 4 cory's, 3 guppy's, and 2 honey gourmi's. I heard the honey's were peaceful. How do you think this mixture will be? I don't want an aggressive tank.

I'm soooo jealous.
Are you going to have it cycled by Monday?

What kind of filtration/GPH are you going to run? You may have to keep a close eye on your water parameters since you're cutting it a little close on the overstocking. I do it too, I just run an extra filter so I have 10x gallons for my gallons per hour filtration. On a 20, if you run 200 gph, that'll help with your water parameters.

Some types of gouramis are aggressive with their own species, but I don't know if the honey gourami is like that. Maybe another member with more experience with them can help you out on that. You may be only able to have one if you don't want aggression in the tank, but you've picked some very colorful and personable fish, so it'll be a great-looking tank, even if you only have one gourami.

Do you know what type of cory yet? I've never found any species that wasn't a bunch of fun to watch

Beth,
I am using TTS to cycle my tank and it does it in about a day.

Bolivianbaby,
I have a top fin filter. Yes I thought I wanted two but i guess it would be better to play it safe and just have one.I like the Panda cory's and the leopard cory's. I think I am going with the panda ones though. They are very cute.=]

Just don't forget the heater and thermometer. Those are the two things I always forget and then I have to go back to the store for them. It's not a big deal, the store is only 2 minutes from my house, but it's annoying

I already have that. I knew I had to remember to get them. I have to get another thermometer though. The one I got broke. They don't cost a lot so I can get one.

Congrats in getting your first 20g tank! You're using a TTS? May I ask what's that? I feel like getting it now! haha And also to support you, 5 platy's, 4 cory's, 3 guppy's, and 2 honey gouramies sounds great! I can almost imagine it in your tank. I'd follow the other members about overstocking. With this stock, it IS almost overstocked so yeah, put another filter in. I did it also and my stock was fine! WELL DONE and good luck!

Congrats on your new tank! The stocking list that you have sounds great Mary's platies are adorable! I wish I lived close enough to get some. Have you thought about adding some live plants in your tank? All the species that you are planning on stocking would do well with them

I would do it but I don't think I am going to do that. That is a great idea though. I would of done that, but I already bought the TSS. I wouldn't want to not use it. Then it would be a waist sense I bought it. Thanks for the idea!I will try it some other time when I get another tank.

Ok so this is an update. Its almost the day that I will be setting up the tank and I am very excited. I just went to the store and bought that Whisper filter. I have for it some bio modules and a sponge. I also bought a tube that the cory's can go through and a few other things. I am trying to also find so little nick nacks and some caves for the fish to go through. I want to make sure they have something to do.

Ya. I was wondering about what kind of things would the dwarf Gourmi's like to have to do in the tank?

You're totally right, they are more peaceful. I've checked into them after you posted the other day. They're actually a very pretty, peaceful fish.

If this helps (I know they're not the same, but they have close to the same temperament), my pearl gourami for some reason when she's not at the top of the tank, likes to check out the "caves" created by some of the decorations and her favorite seems to be the log cave.

I wont.lol. It might be a little late when I do though. I am having a kind of get together. But I will get it done as soon as I can. For platy's I am taking 2 orange platy's, 2 blue platy's, and 1 yellow twin bar platy. Mare2009 is my grandmother and her platy's are great.
