Any ideas? We are currently trying to finish our basement. My parents say we can get a good sized tank because there's almost no wieght limit. About a few weeks later, one of the teachers named Mrs. Corbet said she has 1 60 gal hex, 1 60 gal long, and 1 70 long. Which of these would you pick? I like the idea of the 70, and I would stock it with either 3 parrots, 1 kissing gourami, or 1 oscar. If you disagrre or have other ideas, share them here.

Hex vs long, you might want to consider what kind of fish you'd like to keep and make your decision from there.

I'd go for the 70. Bigger is generally better as long as you have the room for it, and it sounds like you do. How cool that your parents are totally ok with this!

My dad ays we'll have problems with cleaning the side of the hex, so he likes the long. My mom wants "five colorful large fish that aren't agressive" It's kind of funny, because I want all of the tanks and she doesn't know which one she likes. I want the parrots, my brother wants the parrots, my dad wants an oscar, and my mom wants the kissing gourami!

I may need all of them! Oh, and discus are expensive and hard to keep. Sorry, I don't think my dad or mom will let me order them of ebay or Amazon, either.

Depending on what you're interested in, I'd go for either the Blood Parrots or the Oscar(s) (you could fit 2 in there too). If you want more fish, I'd go with BP's since they're fairly peaceful, but I have heard that Oscars are great, smart fish with big personalities and apparently even can recognize you and are much more personal.

I'll have to get one of the tanks, almost put too many fish ina and say: "Dad we have too many fish! Quick, let's get another tank so they don't kill each other!"

Another question : I've heard around that an adult oscar won't fit in anything smaller than 75 gal at adult size. I was wondering that if I got a 70 gal if 5 gallons woul make a difference ? I wouldn't want to cram him into there, I want it to be roomy.

I personally don't think it would hurt an oscar IMO. Maybe others do!

Just keep an eye on water parameters and water change as frequently as needed.
