| Picture 1 and 6 is a wet/dry (trickle) filter. Impressive Looks like you'll need a pump for it - a humble suggestion HERE
Dimension of the tank LED me to find it is a 110 XH from HERE
That tank would awesome for Discus, Angelfish and even African cichlids.
Nice acquisition Amanda, nice one indeed. Last edited by ≈ D ≈; May 6th, 2009 at 10:18 PM.

| That is an awesome filter! See all dem bio-balls? The top pic and the 2nd from the bottom go together. It's an outside wet/dry canister filter. Yup, yer gonna need a powerhead of some sort. At 114g I'd go with at least 300gph.
You lucky lil Amanda you |

| The other large filter that is in the basket looks like a Whisper 5. Too, it looks like a smaller Whisper in the same basket. The first picture attaches to the large box with the red bio balls. The red bio balls is where your good bacteria collects and should never be cleaned once you start the tank. Looks like some brick sponges in there with the red balls, those should only be cleaned in a bucket of used tank water, never rinsed under tap water. This also collects your good bacteria to cycle your tank.
Looks like you've gotten a good find there! Would love pictures once you have everything set up. (looks like there may be a bottle of NOVA AQUA (for stress relief and I use it myself) |

| I have no idea how that type of filter works, lol. So I'll have to do some research. Man is that tank HEAVY. Took 3 of us to move it.
I mainly wanted the tank for my Cons when they get older, but it's going to be a NW cichlid tank. Still considering the Oscar, would the filter be okay with one? |

| Yeah, that filter will be fine. You can always add another later on when the Oscar gets bigger. Thats what I did. |

| The box filter should be fine but it depends on what GPH pump you have. DrsFosterSmith.com has them and much cheaper than a local fish store ( LFS). I have a wet dry system and I use a Mag Drive 950 (950gph) for my 155g tank. I don't think you'll need one quiet that large (pump that is), but it also lists all options as far as size is concerned. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produc...90&pcatid=4590
This will show you what I'm talking about Last edited by aquarist48; May 7th, 2009 at 07:29 AM.

| Wow, this is confusing. I'm sure I'll have more questions when I actually begin to set it up, but that's not going to be for a few months. I DO have to ckean it though, it was in a garage for 5 years - there was a dead mouse in the tank when I got it. Yucky yucky. |

| Have fun with it and keep us posted. I think you can make it into a great display. The filters are not difficult to figure out so I'm sure you'll be fine there. |

| ANY free tank is a good deal!! lol.
This is going to be my show tank, it's going to be my baby.
Since there are 2 light strips, I'm thinking planted.
The bulbs are different sizes also, one is thinner than the other - do you think it's two types of bulbs? |
| |
May 7th, 2009
|
| | Fish Keeper
| Quite possibly.
The thicker bulbs look like T-12's and the thinner one looks like it is a T-8 bulb; although what actual types can't be seen. The bulb print (near the ends of each bulb) will clarify that for you.
If and when you go to replace them, get T-8 bulbs as they are more effiecient. They can be used in those light units. |

| Oh and regarding the tank itself, don't forget to water test it (outside) for leaks after you clean it. Wouldn't want to have a puddle inside now would we |

| The old owner of the tank e-mailed me, and they had Pirhanas in the tank before they took it down. Interetsing, since they're illegal in NY. lol. |
