Eventually...Paradise

I picked up my 55 gallon tank today. The guy who sold it to me is really nice. He's offering to give me some of his corydoras, a bunch of gravel, and anything he can find that he doesn't need. He was upgrading to larger tanks, so I got a good deal on this tank.

I got this whole set for $100. Beautiful, sturdy wood stand and a lovely tank. He gave me two Whisper 30 power filters, but he said that he has a larger one that he'll give to me if I want to upgrade. We're going back tomorrow to get the larger filter, 'cause we're having trouble with the Whisper 30s.

I just set it up today. I haven't put my fish in yet. I put some of the gravel and fake plants from my cycled tank into the 55 gallon to help get the cycling started. I'll introduce the fish once it's cycled and everything. I also need to run to the LFS to get more decor. My plan is to have a little foresty thing going on. A paradise for my fish.

Well... It's getting there.

Thanks everybody!

I'm not sure about my stocking plan yet. I've gotta do some thinking about that one. I know I'm going to get some blue rams and/or cockatoo cichlids. I'm also moving my corydoras, otocinclus and neon tetras into the 55 gallon. I'll probably have a few schools of tetras, some more corydoras, a couple of kuhli loaches, dwarf cichlids, and angelfish and/or discus. I'll just have to see what works out.

My mom took me and my younger brother and younger sister to the LFS today to got some more decor. And while we were there, we picked out some starter fish. My sister really wanted a "green catfish" (i.e. bronze corydoras), but the only bronze cory they had there wasn't doing so well. So she picked out two "pink catfish" (i.e. albino corydoras). I also got a red-tailed black shark. I'm watching her carefully. So far, she seems to be tolerating the cory cats just fine, but I have another tank that I can put her in if she starts to get aggressive. I've got plenty of hiding places for them all, and I'll be getting some more plants soon.

The whole setup.

My brother insisted on getting the sunken aircraft carrier, so we went halfsies on it. We're both big military fans. Akula (my red-tailed black shark) mostly leaves the aircraft carrier alone. She prefers the sunken log, while the cory cats like the aircraft carrier.

Akula, my RTBS. She was the most laid back and least aggressive at the LFS, so that's why I picked her.

One of the corydoras.

The other corydoras.

At first, the corydoras were trying to find a way out through the solid glass (naturally), but now they're eating. They're rather content now.

WOW! I don't know many wows i can say but I do know I can say a lot for your tank! LOL It's seriously beautiful! Eventhough the tank is only filled with fake plants and deco, it's very colorful and has great decos. Not much of a themed tank but seriously beautiful! Great stock of fish too! Glad to know your tank is really working out just fine! The aircraft carrier looks cool too! I might be getting a sunken titanic as soon as I save up enough money for it! haha

Thanks! Yep, my four-year-old sister "helped" me pick out decorations. Though my brother the military/war nerd picked out the aircraft carrier. I have some driftwood too, but I haven't put it in yet. Eventually, I'll probably get some live plants. I bet Akula will love that a lot.

Yeah. It's great you have siblings to choose out tank decos for you! haha She must be very very creative! I'd recommend not to put in too much decos as your tank will start to get really heavy and your fishes won't have much room to swim around. I have this friend who put in so many decos in his tank such as big stones, driftwoods, deco plants, a deco sunken ship and loads of gravel, then his stand broke and the glass tank cracked. It's alright now after he bought a new stand and took out all the heavy decos.
