Fish Nonsense? :-/

After seeing my fish tank with all the colourful tetras and beautiful Ziggy betta, my littler sister meghan got a new 15L (yes thats right, 15L) tank with 2 large, fancy goldfish, and had been cleaning the tank out every week or so, but after a while, the periods of time without cleaning have lengthened...too about a month, or more! With a 15L tank, a month without cleaning, and 2 large fancy goldfish this SHOULD be a recipe for disaster...so how come it isnt?

I'm not trying to create an argument, i'm just saying, how come these fish have lived happily and healthily, behaving normally and looking normal with these conditions...isn't it complete suicide not to clean your tank within a week...and lets not forget having 2 fancy goldfish in a 15L tank. According to fish books, and this website the fish should be ill, or dead, but its been 4 months since she got her tank, and they're not even in bad health...

Does this mean everything about fish-keeping is just a lie, and really keeping fish is much more easy than people are saying it is?

living doesnt always mean thriving...im sure these fish are suffering in their own ammonia but goldies are hardy and go thru much worse on a daily basis...doesnt mean its right tho i wouldnt want to live in my bathroom without flushing it for a month...

I agree with Shawnie. I'd also like to add that just because we can't see the damage with our eyes doesn't mean it's not happening on the inside.

I suppose...at first i told my sister off because the tank went green, but she wouln't listen, so i gave up and noticed it didn't seem to have an efect on the fish, but i get your point. Unfortunately its not in my power to help the fish

Wow.....
since each goldie reaches 6 in. natrually, that's going to effect their lifespan GREATLY.
I wouldn't get overly attached if I was your sister.

They might have stunned growth. You should show her the site and the posts and explain it to her. LIke Shawnee said, living is not thriving.

WOW! interesting problem... I'd also agree with Shawnie and Lucy. The problem could be inside, not the outside. The saying, "Don't judge the book by its cover." They could be suffering in the inside, but look fine from the outside. And who knows? They could be dying.

But poor lil' fishies. If I could do something, (since your sister isn't listening) I'd kidnap the fish, take them to my large quarantine tank and take good care of them. I'm starting to love goldfish btw! They're quite cute, and it's a pity that these fish your sister is keeping might die if not taken good care. Something should be done...

Anyways, wish your sister for us "GOOD LUCK WITH CLEARING UP THE TANK IF THE FISHIES DIE!". It's probably gonna be more work than cleaning up the tank while they're still alive.

Take care man!
