Phishies New 10 Gallon Reef Tank

Hi guys! I guess some of the older crowd might remember me, I haven't posted since my last year...no excuse, just plain lazy!

Anyway some of you might remember I used to have a 10 gallon freshwater tank with some albino cories and danios...well after the remaining fish died off (it was an old tank), and it was empty, I did a big redecoration...got new plants, wood, background, etc...and then it sat. And sat. And sat.

I don't know what happened! I just couldn't find any freshwater fish I wanted to try out in such a small tank My favorite fish of choices are all too big for a 10 gallon. So it's been cycling all empty and lonely, barely kept up with snails slowly taking over for almost half a year now, haha.

So. It's time for change. I've always wanted to try a saltwater tank but the money has steered me away. I'm going to sit down and plan out to make this a nano reef tank. It will probably take months before it's anywhere near ready for fish - I'm going to be slowly gathering up supplies as money allows it. At least right now I already have a tank and stand, so that cost is done. Pretty much everything else I need to research and find, though.

No idea what exactly is going to go in the tank. If anyone has any suggestions for just one or two fish (I don't want to overcrowd the tank) that are reef-safe, feel free to offer suggestions! As far as corals and such go, that's WAY in the future. Right now, my goal is to get all my equipment set up, and then get some rock/sand and start cycling! And lots and lots of research! I'm not getting anything live in that tank until I've looked up on a lot of stuff lol.

I'll be sure to share pictures as they come

I think step by step instructions from start to finsih on your equipment, what you choose and how you made it work ect.. with pictures would be awesome. Exspecially for people just starting out in SW and have a 10g to spare and have the same Idea as you, but just cant bite the bullet, (ME)

Keep Us updated!

That is a brilliant idea. I would have never thought of 10 gallons for a reef tank but it makes sense. I always thought about a reef tank as out of reach but 10 gallons would be manageable. I guess for some reason when I picture a reef tank I always picture huge 55+ gallon affairs that light up a room from the glow of the night lights. In the perspective of 10 gallons $50 a pop for awesome looking coral is not such an impossibility. I look forward to pics of your setup.
