GouramiGirl's 75 gallon

So, I bought myself a new tank for a *late* Christmas present . It came with some cichlids, but my LFS let me trade them in for some different things. Please forgive the barren look...it was a bit spur of the moment, so I don't have decor or plants for it yet, but the cycle survived the trip home so I figured the fish would do alright without it for a week or so until I can start working on it. I moved all my tetras over from my 29 gallon (which is now a male livebearer tank), and I'm making it a semi-aggressive tank.

Anyway, on with my exciting story. I was looking at the gourami tanks in my LFS, and I saw this silver fish with a pink tail. I had no idea what it was, and when I read the name I really had no idea. I talked to Wes (I'm VERY grateful to have an LFS that can give me good advice), and it turned out it was a Pink Tail Chalceus...gorgeous looking fish . So of course, I ended up walking out with him. I also got an albino red tail shark that has a crooked spine...as I was talking to Wes he told me that the poor thing had been there for over a month because no one wanted him...they had even named him Zigzag because he had been there so long. So of course I felt bad and got him too (they gave me a good price to see him go to a good home ). Other additions include a Pink Kissing Gourami, Opaline Gourami, and African Spotted Leaf Fish. Here are some pics...the shot of the whole tank is when the cichlids were still in there. Sorry for the poor quality...I haven't gotten a new bulb in the light fixture yet and this one is not picture friendly. They're very dark and it's hard to focus. Little zigzag is very blurry, but you can see his bent spine in the pic.

Aw, that was so sweet of you to take in little Zigzag.
Your fish are beautiful, and I can't wait to see what it looks like once it's completely set up

Ha, I just tell my parents I'm gaining valuable experience for later on in life...I'm studying to be a veterinarian! My parents have been very cool about the "fish tanks taking over the house" thing...ha, it's crazy to think that five months ago I didn't have any fish at all! But my parents both really like fish, even though my mom has never kept them and it's been 20+ years since my dad has.

Anyway, there has been minor progress overnight. My gourami, shark, and leaf fish were all hiding behind the heaters and filter intakes since there were no plants or decorations in the tank last night. I felt really bad, because I didn't want to stress them out until I could find the exact decor I wanted. I've decided this one is going to be Egyptian themed (the blue gravel kind of reminded me of the Nile river lol), which is what I had started in my 29. There's so much Egyptian stuff out there I decided to move the stuff I had bought so far to the 75 and pick a new "theme" for the small tank. So I moved the sphinx and the pyramid, and stopped at the LFS on the way home from my eye doctor appointment and got the mummy and the few plants. I picked up a new picture/plant friendly bulb for the light too. Needless to say, everyone is now venturing out and exploring, and they look much more happy and comfortable. My leaf fish has taken up residency in the Sphinx...I caught a picture of her sticking her nose out! I can't decide whether my opaline gourami is male or female though...I know the fins appear rounded, but they kind of look blocked off. One of my dwarfs was like that and has gradually developed points as he's matured. What do you guys think?

My mom HATES my fish. I would love to have a 75 gal. tank - I'd trade my 55 for a 75. But the mother says no.
