Malawai Mbuna/Peacock Tank

Just started my venture into cichlids and I thought I would share. It is a 30 Gallon Hex with good filtration and religious water changes. Occupants currently are two Peacocks, and two mbuna.

First the tank and one of the Mbuna.

Now the Peacock. Before all the comments start coming in on how this tank set-up is not right for these cichlids, It has been two weeks and all is well. Each fish has set up their own territory in the rocks and they are all eating and healthy. I was thinking of adding a couple more mbuna but I am doing to wait and see how it goes with these first.

It can be done, they are beautiful fish! I love the peacocks! All males? If so even more likely to work out.

Yes they are all males. I wanted to breed them, but realized I do not have the room. Pluse I opted for a more colorful array of fish. Females are mostly drab in color.

Yes it is. I am luck to live in the suburbs of San Antonio, just a couple of miles from the Medina River. I have unlimited access to as much of it as I want. FOR FREE!! WHOOP!!!

My father-in-law actually lives just off the river and gets some good holey-rock every once in a while. He makes some good money selling it on E-Bay.

He actuall doesn't have any tanks. But reading his item descriptions you would think he does. He gets most of his terminology from hearing me and my son talk fish around him.

In a 30g hex tank, not likely...
Malawi need long tank NOT tall tank, at least 55g. All male peacocks would be fine...not all mbuna male.

I actually missed the "hex" part, that does make a difference.
