| Are those malawi cichlids? If they are I think they need rocks to swin under as well as rocks to swim around. I took some regular flat rocks in my tand and made little houses for them. They love it!!! (Sorry if I sound like i'm making fun of your tank. I really do think it looks nice!!!) Last edited by cichlidlover; October 28th, 2008 at 07:14 PM.

| Such a colorful tank! It really does look like a SW tank with such vibrant decorations and fish!
The only thing I would change is add some more plants. Then it would be even more beautiful! Great job on your tank! |

| Welcome to the Fish Lore! I thought it was a saltwater tank too when I first saw it but the fish gave it away. It is pretty now but your fish would love plants and some rocks I think that would make it look even better. |

I do have to say, mbuna cichlids and plants do not mix they eat them, and/or dig them up. They are awlful with decor in a tank. So I would say that is why thats why she has no plants in her tank, I have fake plants in my 36g and I am constantly replanting them after my hongi male digs them up.
I would only ad more stuff for the cichlids to have hidding spaces, maybe more of the coral stuff (I love the sw look!) WTG on that look, the cichlids do look a lot like sw fish. |

I have kept cichlids with fake plants and had no problems but you never know unless you try. That's if you want fake plants. I also meant I knew they where not sw fish because of there species not by how they look. I just thought I would clear that up. |

Even my fake ones in my hongi/peacock tank have to be replanted constantly.
The cichlid/sw look alike, I get that from a lot of people who see my pics of fish. Thats the first thing they ask from their coloration. I love underthesea420's peacocks, they are so bright and colorful! |

They are very colorful fish indeed. They are very beautiful. They do have the color of sw fish. That is what I liked about them the most. Someday I hope I can afford a sw tank.
I know what you mean about nasty buggers when it comes to plants I had an oscar that would uproot my fake plants all the time so I just got tired of replanting them and took them all out and just ended up with wood and rocks in the tank. |

I have my 14g nano going and wow! I am getting it together peice by peice and it does cost! I am going to turn my 36g bowfront into a saltwater reef, just because the bowfront just doesnt' look right as a FW tank to me, then sell the nano (more than one sw is too much for me to handle, I am stressing over each little snail, crab and shrimpy in my tank, I could imagine my clean up crew in a 36 and the 14 on top of it...lol I do a roll call every night)
For my larger tanks, I will stick to my colorful cichlids, they are just as pretty w/ loads of attitude! |

I was thinking about making my 10 gallon a sw tank sometime in the future. I know I could never afford a big sw tank. I would like to have some seahorses or some kind of sw angelfish. I also love the lionfish and the puffers but I think they get to big for a 10 gallon. The colorful cichlids do look like sw fish and they are very beautiful and lots of personality to come along with the beauty. I really don't know what I will do in the future I haven't made up my mind. I'm thinking about selling all four of my tanks and get one big one. Decisions,decisions...... |
