Good news & bad news...which do you want first?
Bad news? okay:
My friend Amy is getting fish. Great right? NO. Her mom ordered them offlline - she's getting them tues. She doesn't even have a tank yet. Nothing. Sooo, I have to try to get her tank up & running ASAP. VERY mad at her btw.

Good news:
I'm getting another 55 gallon tank for FREE. It currently has 1 Oscar in it. A co-workers son is giving it to me. The oscar is so small still, maybe 7 in. and it's 3 years old. So, I'm probably going to stick with the Oscar, I don't think I can put anything else in it, as he'll probably eat anything else, lol.

I know, I've been dying to have one or two. That tank originally had 2, but one died this past winter. I don't know from what. The remaining one is doing well though.

Ugh... That bad news is pretty bad.
The good news is that you'll be able to use your filter media to speed the cycle of her tank. Just make sure it's in a bag of tank water during transit.

Yep, that's what I plan on doing! As soon as she gets the tank I'm adding my filter media to it. May let her use some of my decor too. She's getting an ADF & a betta. A 10 gal. is minimum right? She's in a dorm, so she's tight on room. I'm so mad at her impulse buying right now.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Who does that? To them, fish are just something you put in a bowl. Her mom had a 10 gal. tank in her classroom, and she had a moor goldfish & a betta in it together. See what I'm working with here?

Congrats on the Oscar!

The bad news is frustrating, but the good part of it is that she has you for a friend! You'll make sure her fish will get the right home and have it cycled.

Lucky! I wish that someone would give me a free tank...
And at least your friend has you to set her straight!

Oscars grow very fast, and if it is actually 3 years old and only 7 inches,I would say it has been stunted and probably not very healthy. That is what probably what killed the other one.2 O's in a 55 is not a good idea.1 really needs 75g by itself, unless you plan on doing 50% water changes 3 or 4 times a week.

Way to rain oon the parade, Randall. lol.
He's going to be staying in the 55 gal. as that is what he comes in. I do regular water changes on my other 55 gal. regularly anyway; 1 more isn't going to be that hard. The current owner does a water change every couple of weeks; so anything is going to be better.

Oh jeez I'm sorry! And 1 in a 55 is very doable, just keep up with the waterchanges, like you said.Once a week would be good,2 or 3 would be much better. It was just when you mentioned a 3yr old oscar that is only 7 inches!I was like OMG!They usually grow about an inch a month and by 18 months should be fully grown. It is a good thing that you rescued him, they are awesome fish!(i have 2 myself)

lol, I was just kidding. I don't mind water changes, so it shouldn't be bad. When I get the tank (trying to figure out who's car is being sacrificed in the move), I'll get pics up. I don't know why he's so small, I'll ask the owner again how old he/she is. And I'm guessing at the length, so I could be wrong.

I went with my friend friday, & we bought a10 gal. starter kit, and a divider. She's going to have a divided betta tank. Yay. We're going out today to buy a heater, tetra safestart, and 2 bettas.
