| My dream tank I have finally given in and spent the money on a new 29 gallon tank and stand. I love it so far it is set up with the rinsed sand waiting for the water to clear up a little bit. I have everything but the larger vacuum and fish of course. going out tomorrow to get the background. Pict's coming whenever I feel like digging out my camera. |

| My hillstream Loach (no name yep but up for suggestions) He is cool he has so much control of where he wants to go unlike the other sucker fish i have had where they don't really. He wiggles from side to side and so far is active during the day. |

| Nice looking tank! I dumped my mopani wood in a bucket for 3 days got impatient and threw it in the tank. Now my water is a light brown tea color, but I like how it looks and it wont hurt the fish. Hillstream loaches are so cool, but I havent found any in any pet or fish store that I've been in. As for a name, I would name it... Master Shake. |

| Ok now my aquarium info is up to date and I am looking for a mid level fish that is flashy and would be a show piece. I was going to go with an Angle but I have heard they will eat my loches. So what are your suggestions (no betta's) I was thinking about a gourami. |

| Maybe a single pearl, blue, or gold gourami. Try not to buy dwarf gouramis right now as that virus is still going around that kill them like a day or two after symptoms and there is no cure. maybe a giant gourami? those look like DGs kind of (I saw them at a fish store by me and they look really cool! I would get one if I wasnt doing a south american tank.) and by giant gourami I dont mean the ones that are like 3 feet long... Im trying to find them on google but I cant seem to find them...The store had them labeled as giant gouramis and they looked like faded DGs only slightly larger. | The Kullis all died I don't know why my water is perfect and the Loach I bought at the same time is doing great. I took them back to the LFS today frozen since they died on Sunday, and they gave me store credit. I am not going to do Kullis again I think I will go with a nice school of Corries. I'm going to try to get one different kind so the school is really colored.
I did get a new Plant a Vail something or other its long and cool looking since it is the only thing that reaches the top. I also got 2 Power Blue Dwarf Gouramis. I know about the Virus but the store said they had had them in for 2 weeks and I remembered seeing them a week ago so I think they will be OK.
So far one hides in the drift wood but the other is quite active. Hopefully in time they will both come great me. |

| I got another Jungle Vail for the background so that makes two and they will grow and look very nice.
I got a Long fin Gold Danio to add to the school.
The red tail shark is the last fish for a while but i will get a flower shrimp when ever i need to go back to the fish store again. If I see a really cool danio i might get one but for now I have 30" of fish in a 29 gallon tank. It has really good filtration and many live plants so i dont think one inch i worth worrying about. |

| How many fish and how big of a tank? You might be overstocked. Also what are you using to check your tank's readings. |

| Angels do not eat loaches lol. Angels and Gouramis are both very sensitive fish though, so research how to properly care for them before you decide. Also, I noticed that you buried the Java Fern.... that will kill it, you only need to bury the actual roots and not the long green rhizome that the leaves are attached to... or just attach it to your driftwood. |

| But the angels would eat my ghost shrimp, I went with 2 dwarf Powder Blue Gouramis anyway. My aquarium is now up to date, and I will fiddle with the Ferns to fix them. |

| real shells? Are you sure you want to put real shells in a freshwater tank? Won't that raise your pH? If you are thinking of Angels they like soft acidic water so driftwood is great for them as well as some peat moss in your filter.
I have always liked the look of that type of wood. I seem to remember reading on the tag on a piece of it at the lfs that its heat treated. That may be why it doesn't break down. |

| maybe and i think it is because the wood is so heavy. I think the PH has stayed the same the PH in the area was already high. |

| I bet if you pull out the shells the ph would drop. Wood in the tank will definitely lower it. Even if that wood (despite being beautiful) doesn't lower the ph like other driftwood the absence of the shells will make a huge difference. You could try filling two jars with your tap water and put a shell in one jar then test the ph in both jars after a few hours just to see how much of a difference it makes. Come to think of it I'd be interested to see the same test results for the mopani wood too.
I found an awesome stump and a huge multi-colored piece of well weathered driftwood in a little river near my house. Whether it was worth the time I spent looking for it though is debatable. lol |

| Nice looking tank there...
Just curious after looking at the shells in there. Are you worried that some of those sharper edges may cut up your fish a little bit? I'm pretty sure I just read a post about someones Betta being cutup by sharper edges on a rock. I'd think that those shells would create even sharper edges.
But I'm still a newbie, so I am probably just being paraniod. |

| the shells are smooth enough i believe they are fossilized and i cleaned them so there are no burs or really jagged edges. But my fish also don't have the long brittle fins of a betta too. |
