Finally i have MTS Recently witnessed my cherry barbs spawning for the first time because i added live plants to my 20 gal community. So i decided to buy a 6 gal bowfront breeder tank and in the meantime it has been created into a beautiful amazon biotope. It has become a new home for 2 corys, one bronze and one emerald green. They are doing great, very active and are best mates. I might ad some of my cherry barbs and see if i can successfully breed them. Anyways heres some pics of my 2 tanks.
wow, is there any fighting or harasment of the males to the females? becuase I usually hear that you should have 1:2 male female ratio, but I guess you prove that wrong.
no harrassment whatsoever, the males do their dance every so often but this is natural. they really are a very peaceful fish. i originally wanted 6 cherry barbs when i saw them at my lfs. back then i didnt know much about them only they were a good beginners fish. when i got home i noticed instead of 6 there were 10 in the bag but i am delighted that i have all 10 now, they are great little fellas (and girls) and the community tank wouldnt be the same without them.
Your tanks are beautiful! I love the white sand! It gives it a natural look.
~You serious? 6 males and 4 female cherry barbs? I agree with Butters, normally they'd start fighting because there's more males than females. But well done! I didn't know it could work out.
thank you red1313, i used to have the usual gravel substrate with fake plants but i finally took the plunge into live plants so i decided to change to sand substrate and i have never looked back I think less is more (plants and deco) in the tank, but still having enough in their for the fish to feel secure is the challenge.
