Haha no planted tank expert but here are a few shots of my newly planted 29 gallon. Hopefully with the right ferts and lighting these plants thrive in the substrate.

Filter: Tetra Whisper 40
Substrate: Pool filter sand
Lighting: 2x18w
Plants: Giant hairgrass, red melon sword, wisteria, telanthera, bronze crypt wendtii.
Fertz: Seachem Flourish, SeaChem Flourish Excel

I love that! The only suggestion I have is that the sword and crypt may need a root tab occasionally because the sand is inert and "stuff" won't go down to the roots like it does in gravel.
The Kuhlis and Dojos will love that sand.

Thank you. And thanks for that suggestion. I probably will pick up some API root tabs later on. And I finally decided to take that plunge keeping plants in sand haha.

Oh yeah and as for fish. Right now I've got 4 kuhlis, one angel (for now...I have a pair in the 55 that will attack him) and one clown pleco. I plan to eventually add a school of fish like black neons once the angel is removed.

Edit: Oh yes and how can I forget my boys. My 2 dojo's lol.

Sounds great! I love Black Neons, you can mix them with just about everything.
My Crypts do really well in sand and as does Hygrophila polysperma.
I love clown plecos but you may not like him so much after he leaves his calling card on that pretty sand LOL I constantly have to clean up after my BN in the 75g sand tank
