My Tank

Hi All

I'm a newbie on here, so I thought I'd tell you a little about my tank.

I've kept fish for over 8 years, started of with cold water, goldfish, minnows and the likes, gradually moved up into tropical. I've had a wide range of tanks, some were just plain ugly, some just not al all practical (bio-orb). The tank I have now is my best to date for looks.

I have a Clearseal B Shaped tank, and stand, it's the larger one of the 3, had it over a year, not yet had any diseases or water problems.

In the tank, I have a good selection of peaceful fish which all get on well with each other, most of which are livebearers. They are:

1 Normal Plec
1 Albino Plec
2 Clown Loaches
2 Tuxedo Swordtails (Males)
1 Siamese Fighter (Red Male)
3 Silver Mollies (Female)
1 Dalmation Mollie (Female)
1 Black Dwarf Mollie (Female)
I Saffron Mollie (Male)
1 Black Stripe Tetra (rescued from neighbours goldfish bowl)
Various Snails (the clowns eat all the small ones though)

My filter is oversized for the tank, it's a Fluval 205 outboard filter, which I selected because of the varying filter baskets inside, which can be customised to suit.

I'm planning on upgrading to a large corner setup in a couple of months time, so I've started rescuing the fry when born, and have put them in a floating nursery tank until they are big enough to look after themselves, there are 10 in there at the moment, about 5 days old, all mollies obviously, but a good veriety of colourings, so should look good when mature.

I carry out 25% water changes every week without fail to protect the clowns more than anything, all my fish are always healthy and very active, I don't use any chemicals or salt in my tank, instead, Alll my water is allowed to stand in tank for a day to settle and de-chlorinate before going into my fish tank.

There, Think that's got it covered.

Look forward to any feedback

Trev

Sounds like a neat tank! How many litres/gallons (US or UK) is that? I can't really comment much without knowing that... Clowns will likely outgrow that tank though, knowing clearseals, but I cannot be sure since I don't know the capacity. Same with the plecos.

A Picture attached, yes, the plecs and clowns will outgrow the tank, which is why i'm planning to upgrade, the plecs are about 4 inches long now, so my 30uk gallon tank is a little small.

The tank I have my eye on is 82 uk gallons, so more than double the capacity, and will quite comfortably accomdate all my fish, also going to upgrade the filter system, and use my old tank and setup as a nursery for my livebearers and hoping to look into supplying a local pet shop.

welcome to fishlore!! the tank is decorated nicely!!!! but I wonder how long or do you plan on keeping the betta in the breeder tank? he looks great but they love their own space of at least 5 gallons with lots of room to roam and cause trouble

Wow! Looks like you could even call your tank saltwater! Looks like a reef, and a very pretty one at that! Nice job!

When I get the new tank, the betta will have loads more room, I would like to set up a species tank at some point, and introduce a couple of females, see how they get on, never know, might even be able to get them to breed.

Bettas really need a tank all to themselves - they just don't fit in with communitys. You can get an Aquastart 320 from AquaOne for around £30, with a decent UGF filter and the heater will add abut £15 on to it. That tank is easy to find in shps, looks good, got a nice lighting system, and holds 28L. For around £50 you will have a really lovely pet, not to mention a great looking centrepiece for a room. If you want a tank with several females - be warned it can look great one day, but then the next one female kills them all! And just don't breed Bettas unless you can maintain several hundred separate containers. Also, some males and females just don't get along. It's not easy, breeding Betta!

Point taken, thanks for the advice, perhaps I should just leave him on his own, I think to start I'll just moniter him in with the others, he seems very happy at the moment, and has been with the others for some months with no problems.

I have a betta in a community tank also...its not suppose to go that way in the rules of betta's, be he has been fine...just keep an eye on his fins because some if not most all fish might nip his fins pretty bad...I still love the tank setup!
