I was thinking of making over my tank and give it the african stream theme.Can you give me a list of the plants that might suit this tank?

You can try the book "Aquarium Designs Inspired By Nature" by Peter Hiscock. The book has instructions on how to create various biotopes, from Chinese Mountain Streams to Mangrove Swamps. On page 136 it describes how to recreate a West African Streambed biotope - something you're talking about.
