Aquapod 24g Reef Tank

Hi all:

Here is my new reef tank, it has been cycling for 24 hours now and the water is really clear. It has 23lbs of live rock and 20lbs of live sand. I added the Koralia 1 water jet since the jet that came with the pod seems too small. Temp is 78, salt is at 1.023.

For anyone looking to find out how much is needed to set something like this up, I put together a list of items needed and the cost. I know that I bought extra stuff but I figure I'm going to needed eventually.

1. Aquapod 24g 70w lights + stand $300.00
2. Koralia1 $30.00
3. Thermometer + Water heater $40.00
4. Eight plugs power strip with digital timer $30.00
5. 23lbs live rock + 20Lbs live sand $210.00

Supplies:
1. Piton Aqua Vac 50ft long $57.20
2. 2 Nets $2.44
3. Instant Ocean Salt 2x50lbs $31.38
4. Hydrometer $13.77
5. Water treatment $12.00
6. Master Kit Tester (test for everything) $30.56
7. Magnet Float (to clean the tank as needed $11.00

Quarentine Tank:
1. 10g tank $8.50
2. Glass top $11.06
3. Elite filter $12.75
4. Thermometer + Water Heater $11.00
5. Still need the lamp(estimated at) $30.00

Total for Everything $841.66

Here are the pictures of the tank, I'm susprise at how fast is clearing. I have not tested for anything yet. I'll wait at least 5 days to test it. I'm researching the cleaning crew at the moment.

Hi guys thanks for the comments. Cleaning Crew will be:
1 emerald crab
1 lettuce nudibranch
1 cleaner shrimp
1 peppermind shrimp
snails to be determined

The fish we are considering:
1 clown fish
1 mandarin dragonet (green or spotted)
1 pijama cardinal
1 midas blenny
1 fire fish goby (purple)
1 blackcat basslet
1 hector's goby

Now the question is, Can u have more than one goby/dragonet? Can I mix the goby and the blenny? As you can tell, I have plenty of hiding spaces. I know that this list is too big for a 24g tank so i have to pick according to the answer of my questions. Please let me know.

thanks for the help!

Now this is good! love the rock work.
The mandarin dragonet should only go into a large aged tank that has a good pod population, they are a lovely fish but a high number die due to a lack of food if the mandarin dragonet can not be trained to eat frozen in the smaller tanks..

OK thanks for the info.
Do you see any problems with having a goby and a blenny together?
Are they going to kill each other?
Do you think this line up is compatible?

I appreciate the help guys!!

First water test!!

Thanks peterpiper for the info, it was helpful.

Now, the tank has been cycling for 4 nights and the water looks just perfect. So i decided to test it and see where it is. Here are the results
Temp 82
Salt 1.022
ph 7.8
Ammonia .25
Nitrite .50
Nitrate 0

Well, I think is on it's way but is not ready. Let me know what you think.

I found a crab in there so I removed it. The rock is bleaching out a bit but I see things growing out like feather dusters and FORAMINIFERANS.

Did I kill my Snails?

Did I kill my snails?
After cycling for 8 days, the tank hit:
Temp 80
Salt 1.022
ph 8.2
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 0

I went and got:
1 cleaner shrimp
1 peppermind shrimp
1 turbo snail
4 astrea snails

The shrimp are OK so far but the turbo snail is not moving at all, it has been 2 nights and she has barely move. She was so animated on the way home and now I'm scare she will be done. Only 1 of the other snails is moving and eating, the other 3 are not moving. They are stuck to the glass tho. What does that mean? My tank is filling with algea so I tought they will be OK.

Can you guys tell me what I need to do? I took my time aclimating them, it was at least 4 hours of adding water in the bags, little by little.

New Pictures and Questions

Here are some new pictures:
I added a clown, a purple firefish and a pajama cardinal.
I also bought a mushromm and a pulsing xenia. They are little and I hope they grow OK.

Question (Please answer):
The clown is bullying the firefish and she is hiding and doesn't seem to be eating. In the Q tank she was eating just fine, the clown seems to be chasing her away from the food. Is she going to starve or is she going to eat eventually? The clown is just a pig, he will eat anything i put in there.

If the clown is driving others away from "his" food, he could very well starve the other fish to death. I had a molly do this to her school-mates.
I don't know how you could fix this problem, but it definitely is a problem if it continues.

Thanks Martinismommy

It was a lot of hard work, money and effort. I just added a green clown goby. As soon as he starts coming out I'll take a picture. I'm done with the fish, I have 4 in there now and I do not want to risk getting anything else. I also added a brown/red ricordea.

I have been lucky, everytime I do water testing the nitrates, nitrites and ammonia show zero. I'm thinking that my lfs sold me Really good LR because it has been like this from the beggining.

I'm getting rdy to put away my Q tank, what can i do with the filter sponge? Should I just let it dry, or should I store it in the aquapod somehow? I'm not thinking that I'll use it again, unless a fish get sick.
