Bubbles
This is my beautiful crowntail little betta boy "Bubbles". He has a great personality. Just thought I would share a pic with everyone.

Your crowntail is a cutie pie! I had one of those tanks that was home to a female ....
With betta's I think since they are so curious.. that no back ground gives them that much more to look at whats around them, especially in the smaller tanks such as that type. Wondering, I didnt notice a heater in that tank? Do you have one in there for your lil guy?

Yeah I do. It is kind of hidden behind the plant. The tank is kept at a steady 78 Degrees, so he's a happy camper. As far as a background, I was thinking of putting one more small plant in the back and that will pretty much fill in the rest of the tank. I want to leave him a little more swimming room though. I want to get a 20 Gallon Long tank and put 2 dividers in so I can keep him and two more bettas. It's funny because I wasn't always drawn to bettas, but now that I have one I am so attached

Beautiful crowned tail! I agree about the background, they make the fish feel secure if they don't see their reflections.

Bettas are beautiful fish even alone, definitely consider a background it rounds off the tank, kinda makes it a little more authentic.

Love the tank for him and I'd actually recommend a cave in the middle. One that's natural looking and has no rough spots inside or out would fit the style of the tank and be something that he'd love. Some floating water sprite in the corner that he's in (2nd pic) would be fun for him too, especially when the roots get thick. He's a beauty!

Is the water sprite hard to care for as far as temp. and pH and such?

It seems to be super easy to take care of. Ours is growing like crazy and we haven't had the best luck with plants in the past. You could get more extensive info on it over at plantgeek or wikipedia.

Thanks I'll look into especially due to the fact that I plan on stocking my 29g with some pearl gouramis.

What kind of cave would you suggest? I am always afraid that the edges will be to rough!

In my gallery, there is a picture of my 10g Bettas with a cave. You can get these at Petsmart and they are great. If you can get some Java Moss, then tie it on there with clear fishing line, it would look even better.

Okay, so this is my new idea (for my birthday present next month):
20 Gallon Long Tank
3 Tank Dividers (with moss growing on them)
4 Male bettas with their own little caves and plants
Any other ideas //

get a 30g and make a tropical community. Just post what you decide and people will help you through it. I suggest a 30g because at that point you can house many more vareities of fish, such as the larger gouramis or some loaches. If money is an issue, which it is most of the time, then I understand, at that point just get the 20g. If space is the issue then keep in mind a 30g does not take up that much more space at all. Respond with what you decide to do.

I have quite a few community tanks and I wanted to do something different involving male bettas. I thought that this idea would work well because I could give each betta 5 gallons to himself and create a different look instead of having 4 small betta tanks. Right now I have a 40 gallon, four 29 Gallons, a 10 gallon, and a 2.5 gallon so I really don't want to set up another big community tank Thanks though. I just wanted to know if anyone else had any other interesting ideas involving housing bettas.

Watersprite is an awesome plant. It grows well even in low-lit tanks.

Your idea on housing multiple Betta's in the 40g sounds great.
I did something similar years ago with a self-built 30 gallon tank. The tank measured 48"x12"x12". This allowed me to have 6 Betta's in the tank. I used some tinted plexiglass (acrylic) as the dividers, live plants & slate for decor, an external cannister filter, an airstone and two 300W heaters. Each Betta had 5g to play in and as the dividers had lots of holes, to allow water circulation, they didn't have stagnant water.
They loved it
Here's the design of it.
