That's one of the reasons, especially for the guppy/cory tank, to give them more aeration, and they like playing in it. My other reason is that there are some open spaces in the back and I don't want them to jump out (I lost my first betta that way

). It's also evaporated a little from where I usually fill it to (been a week since last water change). I have been thinking of getting some kind of mesh to cover the back spaces, to calm my fears, and then raise Penny's water level at least.

It's a hexagonal... seems to be a little bigger than the rectangle 5.5, though that could be a trick of shape. The entire tank (well let's just say the actual tank and the fish) were a rescue of sorts from my brother a few months ago. He was keeping them in 3 inches of filthy water, no gravel, heater, filter, anything, so it's a miracle they're all doing so well.
