lol holy cow, you wouldn't believe how quickly i contracted MTS!!! my brother breeds cichlids & set up a 40g used tank @ my house, which turned out to be a nightmare! i now have the beginnings of a fish room goin' on and i've only been at it for a little over a month.
been struggling with camera issues, but i caught a few of the fish before it konked out! no good tank pics yet though
these were during temporary housing while i figured out what to do about the messed up 40g! different setup now, but amazingly still have these guys, thanks to much help from fellow fishlore members!
i'm officially hooked!!

Thanks, for the welcome. My new platys are dying, I haven't had these before. Don't know why they're dying. But hope my last two will make it.

Actually, I have a 2.5g a 5g a 10g and 20g in storage. I've been bothered by a car collision injury, and had to scale back. But, I hope to get back to MTS status soon. I had a bubble eye GF, a betta, and african cics for quite awhile but found them homes with a local friend who is an extreme MTS guy. I want to send pics, and will get hlp with that from my hubby soon.

AHhhhh, I see the MTS is already well set. Thats the kind of attitude we like round here.
How are your Platys acting? ie. sitting on the bottom, not eating, weird swimming. I hope they start doing better for you. If your test results were good and there is no visible symptoms on the fish (ie sores, white stuff, red streaks) chances are it is an internal thing like parasites or bacteria. Fungus illnesses usually have some kind of external symptom. Internal bacterial infections usually show external signs too. Such as red streaking in fins and on their sides but less so than fungal. Hmm I don't know but good luck.

welcome to fishlore - have you posted a thread on them in the disease or platy forums? do you have any pics of them? melafix is a basic med for them (just be super careful not to get it near any betta, gourami or other fish with an air labyrinth organ). Fish protector and vitachem are good vitamins/help for fish too, but usually have to be ordered online.
what is the ammonia, nitrites and nitrates on their tank? how long have you had them? is there an air stone in their tank?

Thanks, I am really learning alot, I've had as many as 4 tanks going, but after a car collision that has slowed me down, have gone to two. I've really been lucky with my fish so far, especially since I know more now than when I started the tanks 2 yrs ago.
The platys are in a 30g/tall. My ammonia is 0, my nitrite is <0.3, my pH is 7.5 and co2 is 8. I have a large airstone that is pushing lots of bubs. I got the platys last Sun. Each one that died looked perfect, not even nipped fins. But my gold Gourami is a booger and a chaser. I do have lots of plants, rock caves for the tetras. The korys do fine, and always have fun. The last 2 platys seem to be holding on, my fingers are crossed.

it sounds like the tank is cycling or in a mini-cycle, maybe from the platys that have died. Do you have "Prime" to treat your tap water with? Are you testing using liquid tests? it is possible that the gourami is causing them so much stress that they're dying - they're not the bravest of fish. If you can give them more hiding spots, that may help. Do they poop white poo?

I do have liquid tester. What is prime? I use stress coat when the go in the tank, and i have several types of tap water conditioner. I lost another platy during the night. So only one left. Right now the six black skirt tetras are chasing each other like crazy, and everone else is calm. I do have a cave, and rock shelter, and good plant scape on the floor, but the 30g tall has about 6" on open top water space. I only saw platy poo from one (now gone) and it wasn't white. What does white poo mean?

this is what we use as our tap water conditioner. It takes care of chlorine, chloramines and heavy metals as well as lock the ammonia, nitrites, nitrates and helps enhance the fish's slime coats.
white poop is sometimes an indication of internal parasites.

Good Info
I've got liquid tap neutralizer, and I also use stress coat. Glad to know about the white poo poo, none of my fishies have ever shown that (knocking on wood) but atleast I will know what's up.

sometimes they'll get that from nibbling on tiny algae, but when it's accompanied by other symptoms or goes on for a bit, then it's time to treat them. We keep a pack of parasite clear in the meds cabinet for whenever that happens.
