It makes me happy you were able to sucessfully have fry from your mollies....... I've heard awful horror stories of fry borrowing out of the side of the mom and her dying and all sorts of awful stuff!!

That happened to mine! People thought I was making it up. Am glad you heard that happens too. By some unknown miracle, she survived it. And now, she got pregnant again and no problem giving birth this time.

But look, noone on Fishlore really believed it, including the balloon owners, so that means that, you know, all in all perhaps it's rare? When I searched on the internet, though, for balloon molly pregnancy and birth, the stories were pretty scary.

They're supposed to, but I've never in my life seen it. That's kinda why I bought this near-transparent all white female thinking this time, young lady, you'll show me that darn spot. And nope, nothing. Are we blind? I've had it described to me a million times and I just haven't ever seen it.

And I have seen the gravid spot on my guppies.. so I know what to look for.... however, even the babies seem to have the gravid spot, so does this mean they are females? or are pregnant at birth!

No, the one in my avatar picture has lots of spots (she's kinda grey with marbled spots), like all my mollies, so I thought I could never tell another spot on them.

I was just having this conversation with someone about when you can sex livebearer fry, and they actually said that from 6 weeks on, they could recognise the females from the gravid spot, although they were not pregnant.

Here's an update.....


In my tank, I have my two female balloon mollies, 1 male dwarf gourami, 3 otos, 1 ghost shrimp, about 50-some-odd mollie fry, anywhere between 1 week to 2 months old... and presenting Sarah, my new bamboo shrimp!

Here at school, my assistant resident director (Sarah) lives on my floor. I noticed, she had a running 10 gallon tank... with nothing in it! Her goldfish had just died the week before school. :-( I told her that if she got a heater I could give her some of the babies! She went out that week and got a heater, I tested her water, everything was great! I gave her 4 babies, their new names are B.A.M.F., Weenie, Edgar Allan Poe, and Amanda. In return for the babies, she bought me a bamboo shrimp!! Which, I of course, had to name Sarah.

So now my tank is WAY overstocked. I think this week I will take them to the LFS.

Anyways, there's my update!!

I also want to say that because of my addiction to fish... I already mentioned Sarah who has some of my fry, but I talked my friend Ryan into buying a pet.. he got a tarantula. Our other friend Rob got a tiny lizard. lol and another girl wants some of my fish! I am getting everyone hooked on petkeeping!!
