| Yep, he spends his time moving them and mouthing them to keep them clean and oxygenated. Plus as they develop and the fry start to hatch they'll start falling on their own and he'll have to put them back up in the nest! |

| It is 29 hours after the spawning began and it is raining betta babies lol....They are falling from the nest and he places them back where they belong...I can't get pictures because I have them in a plastic tub and you can't see through it.....But things are right on schedule at this point... |

Pandora, I have no clue how I got lucky enough to have this all go smooth....I'm just praying I can keep the fry alive...I'm going to go pick up some freshly hatched brine shrimp tomorrow and also some microworms.....
Just for the record when they say Betta fry are tiny they are incorrect....You need a darn microscope to see them! lol. They are 100 times tinier than I expected....The eggs looked big in comparrison to the fry.... |

Here is the best possible photo of the tiny fry...Pandora, are they OK laying on the bottom at this age? |

| Yep, they'll be fine! Dad'll get to them all eventually. As long as they get put up periodically they'll be fine. It may look like there's always fry lying around, but they sort of rotate up in the nest and fallen down. They'll also quickly get stronger and start to be able to keep themselves up, so no individual fry is generally on the bottom a lot, and if so they're usually weak and dad'll eat them because they wouldn't survive anyway. |

| What a beautiful thing to wake up to! My babies are 45 hours old now and they are swiming up and down still in the vertical position....They all seem to be strong...Daddy has been busting his fins all night to care for his fry....This is truly the most amazing thing to witness.....I'm hoping he has taken care of any dead or weak one so the survivors don't get sick...
Here is the best shot I could get this morning....My camea takes excellent pics but these guys need a microscope to see them! You should see my on the floor peering under the bubble nest.....Steve can only think I've lost my mind this time lol...
Here are 2 of my tea tiny babies...There appear to be well over 100 and probably closer to 200....These 2 ventured away from the nest long enough for these shots... |

| Aww, lil babies!
Sorry, I spent my day playing with tanks, getting lost in Montreal, and been playing with my tanks some more and acclimating fish since I got home... if you haven't fed dad already, feel free to do so! He's probably quite hungry
You can feed the lil ones too if you haven't too! |

| Pandora...I plan on keeping him in the spawning tank for at least 2 more days...Will feeding him now make him want to eat the fry? |

| If he's being a good dad it probably won't make a difference either way. You really get a huge variety of opinions as to whether or not feeding will make them more or less likely to eat their young. Personally, I don't feed them when they're tending, but it's more a cleanliness thing than anything, since they often won't eat when actively tending the nest. Since you're leaving him longer you might want to see if he'll take some. He's used up a lot of energy already with spawning and tending the nest and not eating in that time. Maybe just try a little bit and see if he wants it? If you feel comfortable with it of course! lol, I'm always worried about giving advice on things I'm not sure of, I coudl say feed him and you do and he turns around and eats em all just to prove me wrong! |

| I fed him a little and he did OK.....It's hard to tell what he is doing with the babies because they are so darn tiny! He still patrols the tanks and sucks them up and it seems like he is taking them back to the nest..I added some Xmas moss and they are hiding out in there....I got my microworms and will start feeding the fry tomorrow....There seems to be some surface slime and I don't like that so I'm seasoning 2 sponge filters and will add them in couple of days...
Here are some pictures of my little wigglers taken today...You have to look very closely...
BTW, did I mention how wore out I am! lol For anyone considering taking on the challange of breeding Bettas better know what they are getting in to...I have spent a fortune on supplies and spent countless hours monitoring the fry.. Last edited by Martinismommy; October 5th, 2008 at 11:25 AM.
