Blue Botia - normal behavior?

My blue botia hides deep in one of my rocks to the point you can not see him. He comes out in the evenings when the tank lights are off, but only for about a minute at a time to eat some algae and go back in. He is a tad aggressive when he comes out and will chase another fish for a split second but the other fish don't even seem to care (a paradise and bolivian ram) He comes out quickly to get his wafers as well.

Is this normal behavior? Should he be out more than this? Some days go by and I don't see him at all. I read that Botias should be in groups of 3+, is it okay that I just have 1? - its a 10g tank (I know, a bit small for him but he's still so tiny)
