Hillstream tank

Hi, I was considering buying a tank for the sole purpose of housing Hillstream Loach (Beaufortia kweichowensis specifically) and had looked at the example set-up on Loaches Online, http://www.loaches.com/river_tank.html

Now, after that's all set-up, what common fish would be good in that sort of tank, aside from the loach? I really hate paying more than $10 a fish so common fish are much more to my liking. It will have a LARGE amount of waterflow and it will be unheated. What might look good or go well in it?

Re: Hillstream tank

White coluds or any of the smaller Danio species is perfect. I moved the white clouds out of mine and have since added turquoise danios(brachydanio kerri) and it really looks awesome.

Re: Hillstream tank

Ooh, thanks! That kind of Danio is the same as a Veiltail Blue Danio, right? Those, Giant, and Zebra's are the only Danios stocked near me.

Re: Hillstream tank

The tourquoise danio is very slendar and the fins aren't overly long. they swim back and forth like their racing and will flip out if the tank isn't covered tightly. but I imagine any of the small danios would work. Good luck!!

Re: Hillstream tank

Ok, sounds great! Are there any types of catfish that can be put in? I'm a sucker for catfish (I have 13 in my tank right now.. :P)

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Was browsing through some AquariumFish magazines, and saw that Pictus cats are well-adapted and able to swim in strong currents. I may put them in once it's cycled (before the loaches go in) and see how they do. I'd LOVE to have Pictus in this tank!

Re: Hillstream tank

Temperature requirements for Pictus Cats( 75-81F) are too high for Hillstreams (68-70F)
sorry.

Oh, yeah...

I'll have to keep looking then... Corydoras do well in 68, don't they?
